Job Description
Description: Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and School is seeking a mission-driven, faithful, dynamic Director of Communications to lead and manage the parish and school's communication strategies, enhance engagement with parishioners, school parents, and school stakeholders, in order to promote the mission of the parish and school. The Director of Communication will oversee all aspects of internal and external communications, including digital media, print, public relations, and brand management. This role is pivotal in fostering a welcoming community and effectively sharing the mission of Sts. Peter and Paul and promoting the Gospel message through various platforms.The Director of Communications will serve in a ministerial position that requires levels of virtue and decency that reflect conformity with the teachings of the Catholic Church regarding faith and morality. In the same way, the person is required to observe diocesan and parochial norms and practices established to protect the integrity of children, youth, and people in vulnerable situations.
We are seeking an individual with marketing experience, strong computer and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, be able to handle confidential matters and be willing to advance the parish and school's overall mission: supporting families and children to know, love, and serve the Lord. Ability to communicate, both in writing and speaking, in English and Spanish. Experience working in a school is preferred.
Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and School is a parish of the Diocese of Tulsa which serves North Tulsa. Our parish serves many families and offers Spanish Masses and English Masses.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Communication Planning
Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy that supports the church and school's mission, enhances community engagement, and aligns with the vision of the parish.
Work with church and school leadership to identify key communication priorities, events, and seasonal campaigns throughout the liturgical and academic year.
2. Digital Media and Website Management
Oversee and manage the church and school's website, ensuring information is accurate, engaging, and up-to-date.
Manage all social media channels, creating content that reflects the Catholic faith and encourages engagement with parishioners, school families, and the wider community.
Analyze digital metrics to assess engagement and optimize content for outreach and growth.
Support the school's enrollment outreach plan.
3. Content Creation and Editorial Oversight
Create, curate, and manage content for bulletins, newsletters, announcements, and other print and digital materials for the parish and school.
Develop homily summaries, event highlights, and spiritual resources that are accessible and enriching for a diverse parish audience.
Ensure all written and visual content aligns with Catholic teachings and values, while being sensitive to the needs of various audiences within the parish and school.
4. Media Relations and Public Relations
Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries, coordinating responses and managing any public relations issues in a manner that reflects Catholic values and the mission of the church.
Build and maintain positive relationships with local media, Catholic publications, and diocesan communication teams.
Prepare press releases, media kits, and promotional materials for significant events, milestones, and initiatives.
5. Event Promotion and Community Engagement
Work closely with parish and school leaders to promote parish and school events, programs, and volunteer opportunities, maximizing participation and visibility.
Collaborate on the design and distribution of promotional materials such as flyers, posters, banners, and digital graphics.
Oversee photography and videography for major events, developing visual storytelling pieces that capture the spirit of the parish and school.
6. Brand and Reputation Management
Ensure consistency in branding across all parish and school communications and materials.
Safeguard the church and school's reputation by monitoring public sentiment and addressing any potential issues thoughtfully and proactively.
Qualifications and Skills
Faith Commitment: Practicing Catholic in good standing, with a strong understanding of Catholic teachings, sacraments, and the liturgical calendar.
Education: Preferably bachelor's degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field. An advanced degree is a plus.
Experience: Preferably a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in communications, digital media, or public relations, ideally in a church, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in social media platforms, content management systems (such as WordPress), email marketing tools, and design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or Canva).
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to write in an accessible, pastoral tone. Biliterate in English and Spanish.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, leaders, teachers, and volunteers.
Project Management: Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
Creativity: A creative thinker with an eye for design and storytelling, and a passion for using digital media to share the Faith.
Additional Requirements
•Weekend and Holiday Availability: Willingness to attend and support church and school events, including some weekends, holy days, and evenings as needed.
•Confidentiality and Integrity: Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and uphold the trust of parishioners and church leadership.
Physical Requirements:
This position involves multiple tasks, so employees should be able to meet the physical and mental demands of the job. Such requirements include, but are not limited to: bending, carrying, climbing, lifting up to 25 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, and the occasional demands of driving.
