Job Description

The Grounds Superintendent directs the overall operation of buildings and grounds of Calvary Cemetery to assure that it is operated efficiently and effectively in accordance with Church guidelines and applicable standards. Acts as the chief working member of the grounds crew and directs cemetery workers to perform all activities pertaining to the burial, entombment and inurnment of the dead, placement of markers and care of turf and landscape beds. Responsible for the efficient operation and coordination of the ground crew consistent with established cemetery processes and standards. Involved in the training of cemetery workers, both in tasks and safety. Coordinates with the office administration on services and work orders.

KEY TASKS
- Articulate Catholic teaching with a commitment to its application in the job function.
- Executes an annual work plan for maintenance and grounds care and creates weekly schedules for ground crew depending on work priorities, crew and equipment availability and weather conditions.
- Collaborates with CEO for the strategic planning and budgeting. - Organizes, supervises, and assumes the responsibility for the safe and efficient execution of all duties.
- Inspects completed work to ensure conformance with standards and signs off on work orders.
- Provides training and assistance to crew members assuring safe execution of tasks and OSHA compliance.
- Establishes and enforces operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety.
- Inventories supplies of tools, equipment, and materials to ensure that sufficient supplies are available, and items are in usable condition.
- Oversees the ordering of supplies, as needed.
- Maintains adequate records for Cemetery systems, i.e., plumbing, electrical, fire, sewage, irrigation, etc.
- Conduct frequent inspection tours of cemetery to examine the conditions of graves, markers, and general appearance and correct issues proactively before the public makes a formal complaint.
- Works with Office Manager to assure documentation of maps and procedures.
- Supports cemetery events in planning and execution.
- Recommends changes in working conditions or equipment use to increase crew efficiency.
- Reviews performance of staff.
- Must be able to work without close supervision.
- Completes assigned work in a timely and efficient manner taking care to meet approved schedules.
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
- Maintains a professional and courteous demeanor while demonstrating the ability to work harmoniously with other employees, stakeholders, and guests.
- Follows cemetery personnel and safety procedures.
- Review and adhere to the Calvary Cemetery Personnel Handbook and all other Catholic Cemetery Association of Tulsa policies.
- Execute all other duties as assigned.

KEY SKILLS
- Must have ten years of experience in cemetery field operation.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid Oklahoma driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
- Able to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Able to operate a backhoe, clutch driven equipment, properly measure and open a grave, familiar with proper seeding, planting, sodding, mowing, pruning, watering, and fertilizing methods for cemetery vegetation.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, lift, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear; and smell.
- Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and visiting families.
- Must pass a background check and periodic drug and alcohol tests upon request.
