Job Description
LEAD SECURITY GUARDSt. John the Baptist Diocesan High School - West Islip, NY
St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is seeking a Lead Security Guard to oversee the day-to-day coordination of campus security operations and help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, families, and visitors.
While this is an hourly position, the Lead Security Guard will serve in a leadership and coordinating capacity, working closely with the school administration to oversee security personnel, strengthen campus safety procedures, respond to security concerns, support post assignments and assist in the development and implementation of emergency preparedness protocols.
Primary Responsibilities
-Security Operations & Leadership
-Serve as the lead security presence for the school and provide daily direction and support to security personnel.
-Coordinate the daily assignments, coverage, and responsibilities of security guards.
-Monitor security operations throughout the school day and during school-sponsored events.
-Assist with training, mentoring, and onboarding of security personnel.
-Serve as a point of contact for security staff regarding daily operations, concerns, and procedures.
-Communicate significant security issues, incidents, and concerns promptly to school administration.
Campus Safety & Security
-Conduct regular security checks of the school building, grounds, entrances, exits, and other designated areas.
-Monitor visitor access and assist with maintaining appropriate access-control procedures.
-Assist with student arrival, dismissal, transitions, special events, and other high-traffic periods.
-Respond appropriately to security incidents, disturbances, emergencies, and other situations requiring immediate attention.
-Work collaboratively with administration, faculty, staff, students, parents, and emergency personnel.
-Maintain a visible and professional security presence throughout campus.
Emergency Preparedness
-Assist school administration in developing, reviewing, and updating school safety and emergency response procedures.
-Assist with the planning and execution of emergency drills, including lockdown, lock-outs, evacuation, hold-in-place/shelter-in-place, and other emergency procedures.
-Help ensure security personnel understand their responsibilities during emergency situations.
-Identify potential safety and security concerns and make recommendations to administration.
-Assist with coordination and communication with local law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other emergency agencies when appropriate.
Policy & Procedure
-Assist administration in reviewing and improving school security policies and procedures and help in establish consistent security practices among all members of the security team while maintain appropriate documentation of security incidents, concerns, and significant occurrences.
School Events
-Coordinate security coverage for athletic events, dances, performances, liturgies, parent events, and other school-sponsored activities.
-Assist administration in assessing security needs for large or high-attendance events.
-Coordinate security assignments and responsibilities before and during events.
Qualifications
-Prior experience in law enforcement, military police, and/or emergency management is strongly preferred.
-Prior supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.
-Experience working in a school, educational, public safety, or community environment preferred.
-Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive during emergency or high-pressure situations.
-Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, parents, visitors, administrators, and emergency personnel.
-Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize potential safety and security concerns.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
-Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
-Ability to successfully complete all required background checks and school safety requirements.
