The Paraprofessional for Resource Room/K-8 Support serves as a vital member of Sacred Heart School's Resource Team by providing targeted academic and behavioral support to Kindergarten through 8th grade students, with a primary emphasis on classroom support for math and reading intervention support. This role supports struggling students through small-group interventions, classroom assistance, progress monitoring, and collaboration with teachers.

The paraprofessional directly advances the Sacred Heart of Jesus School mission by helping young learners build foundational math and reading skills, supporting individualized student growth, and fostering a nurturing educational environment rooted in faith, compassion, and excellence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Reading & Academic Intervention
-Deliver evidence-based small-group literacy instruction focused on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
-Monitor, assess, and document student reading and math progress regularly to evaluate intervention effectiveness.
-Support students at risk academically and assist the teacher with implementing student improvement plans.
-Assist classroom teachers with early intervention supports during core instructional time.

Student Support & Behavior Intervention
-Support classroom teachers in identifying students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges.
-Help implement and monitor behavior intervention plans for students requiring additional support.
-Provide classroom management assistance and reinforce positive behavior strategies.

Collaboration & Communication
-Collaborate closely with classroom teachers regarding student progress, small group lessons, and behavior interventions.
-Maintain accurate student records, progress notes, and intervention documentation to share with the resource team.

Qualifications:
Required:
• High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree or coursework in education preferred)
• Experience working with elementary-aged children, particularly in math, reading or academic support
• Strong understanding of early literacy development and intervention strategies
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, families, and school staff
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to Sacred Heart's mission and values (Grit, Joyful Servants, and Unapologetically Catholic)
Preferred:
• Prior experience in K-8 math and/or reading intervention, resource support, or special education
• Familiarity with Tiered Intervention systems (RTI/MTSS)
• Experience supporting student behavior interventions
• Background in Catholic or faith-based education

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Understanding of foundational reading instruction for early learners
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
• Strong patience, compassion, and adaptability
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality
• Skill in data tracking and student progress monitoring

Additional Duties or Responsibilities May Include:
• Lunchroom Duty
• Monitoring Recess
• Assisting with Drop off or Pick Up Procedures
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work in classroom and small-group settings
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and assisting young children
• Ability to lift instructional materials and classroom supplies as needed

Work Schedule:
• Full-time, school-year position
• August through May, aligned with school calendar and professional development expectations
