Job Description
Position Summary:The Coordinator of Family Faith Formation reports to the Director of Disciple Formation. The job is 35 hours per week in person and includes regular weekend and evening hours.
The main responsibilities of the Coordinator of Family Faith Formation are to oversee Family Faith Formation and Vacation Bible School under the direction of and in collaboration with the Director of Disciple Formation. The Coordinator of Family Faith Formation will work as part of the office team, communicate with parents, meet with families, support catechists, assist in organizing Family Faith Formation, organizes Vacation Bible school, and leads instructional sessions as needed. There are also administrative duties which will require the use of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Word, and other software.
About the Department:
The Coordinator of Family Faith Formation is a part of the Department of Disciple Formation. The Department of Disciple Formation focuses on growing the faith of families in the areas of catechesis and sacraments. The formation model is personal accompaniment with small faith-sharing communities.
Qualifications:
• Must be a practicing Catholic, able to participate in the full sacramental life of the Church with a commitment to growing consistently in her/his faith life.
• Is an active listener with the ability to work collaboratively, foster teamwork and maintain confidentiality in all situations.
• Must have strong communication and organizational skills.
• Must be able to create basic documents, spreadsheets, and presentations using the Microsoft Office software suite especially MS Word and Excel.
Education:
• High School Diploma required.
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferred.
Experience Required:
• At least one year experience working (or volunteering) in a Catholic parish setting, or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of successful office clerical work, or equivalent.
Principal Duties:
• Works under the direction of the Director of Disciple Formation to implement all resources for Family Faith Formation in accordance with diocesan guidelines.
• Oversee the Family Faith Formation registration and related processes including organizing/assigning classes and following up with families as needed.
• Assists the Parish Liaison for the Office of the Protection of Children and Young People to ensure that all ministry volunteers who have contact with children and youth are fully compliant with Diocesan guidelines for Child and Youth Protection.
• Works with the Coordinator of Liturgy and Sacrament Preparation to support sacrament preparation programs for Penance and Holy Communion for the First Time and Confirmation.
• Oversees the planning and implementation of Vacation Bible School (VBS), under the supervision of the Director of Disciple Formation.
• Occasionally assists as a back-up in answering the phone and greeting office visitors.
• Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings, retreats and other relevant parish meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands/Working Environment
• While performing the duties of this job, required to have ordinary ambulatory skills; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weight of 10 - 50 pounds.
• Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read.
• Frequently required to sit, listen, talk and use repetitive motion of the hands/wrists.
• Work performed in and out of the office setting.
• Regular evening and weekend work is required.
• Periodic travel is required.
• Must be adaptable to change and able to work in a flexible environment.
