Position Description

Job title: Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry
FLSA: Full-Time; Exempt
Reporting Functions: Reports to the Executive Director of Evangelization and Formation

Job Function: The Director is responsible for directing, administering, and supervising Youth Ministry, including overseeing Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), and Catholic Scouting. The Director is also responsible for directing, administering, and supervising the Young Adult Ministry, with direct oversight of Newman Catholic at Lafayette College. Guided by pastoral documents and diocesan pastoral vision, the Director promotes comprehensive evangelization and formation ministry efforts by providing direct and indirect services to parishes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Overall:

- Provides support and formation to parishes and parish leaders of Youth Ministry and Young Adult Ministry throughout the diocese.
- Works with the Executive Director of Evangelization and Formation to ensure that these programs and program materials are theologically sound and pastorally sensitive.

- Serves as the Director of Catholic Campus Ministry at Lafayette College, as the main advisor to Newman Catholic.

- Works with the Executive Director of Communications to utilize contemporary means of communication including digital media, print media, the A.D. Times, AD Today, etc. to educate, communicate, and market Youth and Young Adult events throughout the Diocese.

- Identifies and studies developments in the areas of youth ministry, young adult ministry and campus ministry. Keeps abreast of Church documents and programming resources.

- Responsible for efficient and organized management of the office and its hard and electronic files.

- Responsible for the fiscal management of the office; this includes development of a budget and proper maintenance of fiscal operations.

- Collaborates with other Diocesan offices, parishes and other groups in the community.

- Administers and manages day-to-day operations. In coordination with the Office of Human Resources, ensures policies and procedures are followed.

- Builds and maintains trusting relationships with parish priests, parish leadership, professional associations, and diocesan groups affiliated and leaders with the ministries of this office.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Youth Ministry, CYO, and Scouting:

- Serves as the Evangelization and Formation liaison to the CYO Coordinator and CYO Regional Leadership.

- Serves as the Evangelization and Formation liaison to the Scouting community.

- Offer ongoing faith formation of coaches.

- Oversees the creation and implementation of diocesan youth ministry initiatives and acts as a resource and guide for those in youth ministry leadership, both paid and volunteer.

- Assists parishes in establishing youth ministry.

- Coordinates diocesan trips to youth ministry conferences.

- Coordinates diocesan / regional youth ministry events.

- Holds regularly scheduled meetings / professional development/retreats for youth ministry leadership.

Ministry to Young Adults and Lafayette College:

- Assists parishes with fostering the evangelization and discipleship of young adults.

- Identifies young adult leaders capable of missionary discipleship, guiding them in the development of parish and regional programming designed to promote community, catechesis, and spiritual enrichment among young people.

- Supports and promotes the efforts of ministers offered for young adults at the parish, local and regional levels.

- Creates and publishes the Young Adult Email Newsletter.

- Serves as the liaison to the Commission for Young Adults.

- Provides direct oversight to Catholic Campus Ministry at Lafayette College (Newman Catholic).

- Assists with the planning and celebration of Sunday liturgies, weekly meetings, and other on-campus ministerial offerings.

- Collaborates with other Catholic Campus Ministers in the diocese to coordinate the annual Intercollegiate Retreat, mission/service trips and opportunities to attend FOCUS SEEK and other college related conferences.

Professional Associations:

- Membership in appropriate national organizations for youth ministry, young adult ministry, and campus ministry, such as the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) and the Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA).

- Represents the Diocese at local, regional, and/or national gatherings which address youth ministry, young adult ministry and campus ministry.

Educational requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Education, or related field. A graduate degree is preferred.

- Minimum of 3 years experience working in a Catholic parish, Catholic school, or diocesan setting.

Other requirements:

- Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, have a deep knowledge of the Catholic faith, and agree to live by the tenets of the Catholic faith, including in lifestyle and on personal social media.

- Expert knowledge of the teachings and values of the Catholic Church and proven ability to impart this knowledge.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills; interpersonal and public relation skills.

- Ability to accomplish projects on time and within budget.

- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively.

- Optimistic, enthusiastic, and team-centered professional with the ability to maintain confidentiality.

- Competence in the use of technology required for this position.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone. Use of hands to operate standard office equipment; with occasional reaching and lifting up to 10 pounds.

Working conditions: This is a full-time, exempt position; working hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM; 35 hours/week. May be required to occasionally work more than normal working hours, including evening and weekend responsibilities when connected with programming and events. May be required to travel within the 5 counties; Northampton, Berks, Carbon, Schuylkill, and Lehigh County.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
