Job Description
Villanova Prep is a private, co-ed Catholic Augustinian college preparatory school serving students in grades 6-12 that is located on 130 acres in beautiful Ojai, California. We seek a dedicated and experienced School Counselor with a valid Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential to join our team. This role focuses on providing comprehensive counseling services to students, including academic, college and career, and personal/social development support. Villanova Prep, operated under the direction of the Augustinian Friars, is accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.Job Type: Full-Time, 11-Month
School Counselor Responsibilities
Individual and Group Counseling:
Ability to identify and refer students to outside sources of mental health and wellbeing support as needed.
Academic Advising:
Inform parents and/or guardians if a student is not passing one or more courses (in addition to the teacher's correspondence).
Coordinate Academic Success Contracts for students that are on Academic Probation or in need of academic improvement in one or more classes. Assist in the coordination of College Counseling programming appropriate for the lower grades at Villanova.
College and Career Counseling:
Provide career exploration and guidance. Provide information to students and families regarding the college admissions process. Work with students on college selections, applications, essays, and the financial aid process. Is a member of NACAC and WACAC and attends one of the annual conferences. Knowledge of SCOIR, Questbridge, and college applications preferred.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and other professionals to support student success.
Data Collection and Analysis:
Maintain accurate records of student counseling services and participate in data collection and analysis to inform program improvement. Work with the Registrar to maintain student records.
Professional Development:
Participate in ongoing professional development activities to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.
Qualifications
Required:
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, the Catholic faith and Church teaching.
- Commitment to the Augustinian values of truth, unity and love.
- Strong personal integrity and sound judgement.
- Valid Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential with a School Counseling Specialization.
- Bachelor's degree in School Counseling or a related field.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and procedures.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field.
- Previous experience in a middle and/or high school setting.
- Proficiency in relevant software and technology.
The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000. The starting salary is based upon, but not limited to, several factors that include type and years of experience, education level, and expertise.
