Job Description

Angelus Academy, a K-8 independent Catholic classical school in Springfield, Virginia, seeks a Head of School starting July 1, 2026.

About Angelus Academy:
Angelus Academy is a small, faith-filled community of caring educators and supportive parents who are committed to forming the next generation of Catholic faithful through a liberal arts education in the classical tradition. Our small class sizes, unique Salvation History-based curriculum, and dedication to the Catholic liberal arts tradition foster a love of learning, the mastery of skills, and most importantly, a sense of God's love and His plans for each student. Our school year is enriched by many special events, traditions, local field trips, daily prayer, weekly Mass, and monthly Adoration in our school's chapel. Our faculty and staff share a love of learning and a desire to continue growing professionally and spiritually. This year marks the 25th anniversary of our school's founding by the Women's Apostolate to Youth.

Position Overview:
The Head of School is hired by the Angelus Academy Board of Trustees, which is responsible to the Women's Apostolate to Youth (WAY, the school's founders). The Head of School, working closely with the Director of School Mission, will embody, manifest, and advocate the mission, vision, and culture of the school, as articulated in Angelus Academy's mission statement.

Key Responsibilities:
-- Nurture an atmosphere of Catholic classical education with a spirit of reverence, obedience, and charity throughout the school day with students, faculty, and staff.

-- Establish a rapport with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the WAY Chaplain that garners their trust and respect. Build consensus and cooperation among the various constituencies of the school.

-- Recruit, select, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate properly qualified persons to serve as members of the Angelus Academy faculty, staff, and administration.

-- Facilitate the development and implementation of a Catholic liberal arts curriculum. Monitor grading, testing, and communication with parents.

-- Oversee the school's disciplinary policies and promote standards of conduct in keeping with the St. John Bosco Preventative Method.

-- Help plan the preparation of the annual school budget. Oversee all purchasing, banking activities, and payroll.

-- Support development efforts by helping to cultivate major benefactors for the school.

-- Serve as a member of the Board of Trustees. Represent the Board in its relations with the faculty, staff, students, school families, and the patrons of the community. Ensure that the Angelus Academy founding documents are understood and followed.

-- Represent the school in its relations with local, regional, state, and federal agencies and with Diocesan and national educational and accrediting organizations. Ensure compliance with all laws and civil regulations.

Qualifications & Experience:
-- Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church

-- Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, theology, philosophy, or a related discipline) preferred

-- Educational leadership experience, ideally in a classical Catholic school

-- Experience in advancement, fundraising, or donor relations is strongly preferred.
