JOB DESCRIPTIONDIRECTOR OF EVANGELIZATION
St. Mary's Visitation, St. Stanislaus, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church - Byron Center, MI
Title: Director of Evangelization
Reports to Pastor, Full Time, Exempt
Purpose: The Director of Evangelization designs, implements, and oversees parish ministries that invite people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This role focuses on re-energizing active parishioners, reaching out to fallen-away Catholics, and welcoming the unchurched into the parish community
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Strategic Vision: Develop and execute a comprehensive parish evangelization plan aligned with the Pastor's vision.
• Discipleship Pathways for Adults: Implement small group ministries, discipleship programs, and parish retreats that foster deep spiritual growth. These programs will engage the inactive or fallen away Catholics, reach out to the unchurched, and strengthen the moderate to faithful Catholics.
• Discipleship Pathways for Youth: Development of a structured, relational journey that guides teenagers from initial engagement to spiritual maturity, service, and leadership.
• Leadership & Recruitment: Recruit, train, and mentor ministry leaders and volunteers to build a culture of missionary discipleship.
• Hospitality & Outreach: Revitalize parish welcome processes, new parishioner orientation, and community outreach events.
• Promotion: Able to use social media, Flocknote, email, and the parish bulletin to promote programs.
Key Skills and Abilities
• Interpersonal Communication Skills: Exceptional public speaking, relational storytelling, and conflict-resolution abilities that will engage with both youth and adults.
• Organization: Strong administrative skills to manage multiple projects, events, schedules , and volunteer teams simultaneously.
• Technology Able to use various technology, social media, and Microsoft office systems
Education & Qualifications
• Degree: BA Theology, Religious Studies or other closely related field.
• Faith Life: Practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church, possessing a visible love for Christ and the Catholic faith.
• Compliance: Adherence with diocesan Safe Environment requirements, including a background check and child safety training.
• Experience: 3 to 5 years of professional parish ministry, missionary work, or related leadership experience.
