Job Description

Catholic International University seeks a strategic and experienced Vice President for Information Technology / Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO) to lead the University's technology vision and digital infrastructure. The successful candidate will support the mission and guiding principles of Catholic International University and ensure that all technology strategies and initiatives contribute to advancing the University's educational mission and values. This is a full-time remote position.
Description:
The VP/CIO provides executive leadership for the University's information technology strategy, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, data governance, and digital learning environment. As a member of the President's Leadership Team, the VP/CIO serves as the University's senior advisor on technology, digital transformation, and information security while ensuring alignment with the institution's academic mission, strategic plan, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
This role is responsible for developing and implementing innovative technology solutions that enhance teaching and learning, strengthen institutional decision-making, safeguard institutional data, and support the University's long-term growth.
This position reports to the President.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Technology Governance
• Develop and implement a comprehensive institutional technology strategy aligned with the University's mission and strategic plan.
• Advise the President and senior leadership on emerging technologies impacting higher education, including digital learning, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
• Establish institutional IT governance, policies, and standards for effective technology use.
• Participate in institutional strategic planning as a member of the University's Leadership Team.
• Ensure technology initiatives support academic priorities, administrative needs, and long-term institutional sustainability.
Enterprise Technology and Infrastructure
• Provide executive oversight of the University's cloud infrastructure, networks, telecommunications, and enterprise systems.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and security of all institutional technology resources.
• Oversee enterprise platforms including the student information system (Populi), learning management systems (Canvas), and institutional communication systems.
• Lead evaluation and implementation of new technologies that enhance operational efficiency and institutional growth.
Academic Technology and Digital Learning
• Provide leadership for the University's academic technology ecosystem supporting online learning.
• Ensure effective integration between academic platforms and enterprise systems.
• Collaborate with academic leadership to implement technologies that enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning.
Cybersecurity, Risk Management, and Data Protection
• Develop and oversee the University's cybersecurity strategy and risk management framework.
• Implement security policies, monitoring systems, and best practices to protect institutional data.
• Lead disaster recovery and business continuity planning for technology systems.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state data privacy and cybersecurity regulations.
Data Governance and Institutional Analytics
• Establish institutional policies for data governance, integrity, and security.
• Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Data Strategy and Analytics to strengthen institutional reporting and analytics.
• Support data infrastructure required for accreditation, enrollment management, and strategic planning.
Vendor Partnerships and Technology Procurement
• Oversee relationships with technology vendors and managed service providers.
• Lead technology procurement and contract negotiations.
• Ensure effective oversight of third-party technology services supporting institutional systems.
IT Operations and Service Delivery
• Ensure delivery of high-quality IT services and support to faculty, staff, and students.
• Manage enterprise systems supporting academic and administrative operations.
• Implement technology solutions that improve operational efficiency.
Leadership and Team Development
• Provide leadership and direction to the University's IT staff.
• Recruit, develop, and support a high-performing IT team.
• Oversee project management and implementation of major technology initiatives.
External Collaboration and Institutional Representation
• Serve as the University's primary liaison with external technology partners, vendors, and consultants.
• Support institutional technology reporting and related initiatives.
Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology Management, Computer Science, or a related field required.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in information technology, preferably in higher education or a comparable institutional environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading enterprise technology strategy, managing complex technology infrastructures, overseeing cybersecurity initiatives, and supporting institutional data strategy.
• Experience collaborating with senior leadership to advance institutional priorities through technology.
