Job Description

Summary
Lead the planning, execution and effective operation of Catholic Foundation of Southwestern Michigan (CFSM) fundraising and donor and grant management according to the bylaws. Lead and coordinate the Diocese of Kalamazoo's development strategy and initiatives. Regularly partner and collaborate with the CFSM Board of Directors and the Bishop Leadership Team while embracing the mission of CFSM and the Diocese of Kalamazoo.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Catholic Foundation of Southwestern Michigan
According to the bylaws, and in collaboration with the Board of Directors and Members:
• Prepare strategy with annual and multi-year revenue goals and implement plan to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to reach revenue goals.
• Develop, manage and grow a portfolio of endowment and designated funds.
• Coordinate the work of the Board of Directors, preparing the agenda with the Chair, serving on Committees, and providing support through meetings, procedures, and policies.
• Monitor fundraising results, keeping the Board of Directors informed with regular updates, reports and presentations.
• Assist in the preparation of the budgets and reports.
• Maintain donor acknowledgement and fund management protocols.
• Create and execute funding agreements.
• Provide alternative funding options for fund growth such as Charitable Gift Annuities and donor advised funds.
• Implement operational policies, performing independent, day-to-day operational support.
•Maintain website.
• Collaborate with the Diocese of Kalamazoo on behalf of Catholic Foundation of Southwestern Michigan to provide fundraising and development support for the bishop's initiatives, including but not limited to:
1. Bishop's Annual Appeal (BAA) - Serves on a team with the CFO, Communications Director, and BAA Coordinator in creating, developing and implementing the BAA. Visit all parishes and/or collaboratives within the nine counties for coaching and processing during the BAA implementation stage.
2. Second Collections - Serve as diocesan contact and maintain follow up with parishes to ensure compliance. Produce the annual Diocesan Second Collections Calendar, and provide parishes with all second collections materials, bulletin articles, etc., throughout the year. Produce required reporting to the USCCB.
3. #iGiveCatholic Management - Serves as the diocesan contact for National Giving Tuesday in December. Provides all materials to parishes/schools/ministries in the diocese for the participation of the annual Giving Tuesday event. Coordinate all training, meetings, etc., May-December. Coordinates payments.
4. Works collaboratively with Catholic Charities, Catholic Schools of Greater Kalamazoo, and others on development initiatives.
5. Create, coordinate, implement, monitor all grants and required reporting for Catholic Extension (CE) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), including but not limited to:
a. Provides all materials to parishes in the diocese for the application of CE and CRS grants.
b. Serves as liaison between the diocese and CE and CRS.
c. Coordinates the annual CE and CRS grant cycles.

Other
• Partner with the CFSM Board and Bishop Leadership team, to actively participate in meetings as needed and assist with strategic planning and developing short and long-term goals.
• Attend required meetings and/or trainings and support events and initiatives, assisting with planning and implementation as requested.
• Additional duties and responsibilities as requested with willingness to assist wherever needed.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree is required in nonprofit management, business, philanthropy, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in foundation management, philanthropic nonprofit leadership, Catholic church management, business or strategic planning, fundraising, or grant writing.
• Experience working with a Board of Directors and comprehensive understanding of governance processes and best practices is required.
• Knowledge of Catholic community foundations, philanthropy, and/or nonprofits is preferred.

Qualifications and Skills
• Practicing Catholic with strong knowledge of and commitment to Catholic teachings and practices in order to perform role consistently aligned with the Catholic faith.
• Strong understanding of Microsoft programs and ability to learn new systems and to apply those skills to effectively to complete job responsibilities. Experience with Raiser's Edge and Foundant Technologies is preferred.
• Exceptional verbal communication, public speaking, writing, and editing skills.
• Strong business acumen and financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision to create and implement plans from the Board of Directors and provide consistent follow up.
• Strong relationship-building and customer-service skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of stakeholders in a manner that retains their loyalty to and engagement with the Foundation.
• High level of confidentiality, integrity, accountability, professionalism and humility.
• Ability to navigate leadership and organizational issues and to problem solve and implement solutions.
• Self-motivated and results driven with excellent organization skills and detail orientation to successfully work independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• This position is located at the Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo Pastoral Center and will require travel to other parish and diocesan offices as required by position responsibilities. This position will be exposed routinely to typical office noise levels and/or exposure to various weather conditions.
