Job Description
The College of St. Joseph the Worker seeks a faithful, intellectually rigorous, and pastorally driven priest of the Catholic Church to serve as College Chaplain.The ideal candidate will be a priest who is deeply in love with the Tradition of the Church, committed to the synthesis of the intellectual life and manual labor, and dedicated to the spiritual formation of the next generation of Catholics.
We are eager to accommodate any obligations that religious may have.
I. Sacramental & Pastoral Leadership
The Chaplain is the spiritual heart of the campus, ensuring that the grace of the sacraments is the foundation of our students' daily work.
Liturgy & Sacraments: Serve as the principal resource for the sacraments on weekdays. We seek a priest who celebrates the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Divine Office with profound reverence, beauty, and adherence to the Church's liturgical traditions. Willingness to celebrate the usus antiquior is sought.
Spiritual Direction: Provide consistent availability for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and individual spiritual direction, helping students navigate the integration of their spiritual, academic, and professional lives.
Retreats & Pilgrimages: Design and lead annual student retreats and pilgrimages.
Campus Presence: Be a visible, paternal presence in the workshops, classrooms, and common spaces, sanctifying the ordinary work of the college.
II. Academic & Intellectual Contribution
We believe the active life of the mind is the necessary companion to the reverence for manual labor.
Teaching: The Chaplain will hold a faculty position and be expected to teach courses within our integrated curriculum. While Theology is a natural fit, we welcome expertise in Philosophy, History, Literature, or the Sciences.
Scholarly Engagement: Maintain an active academic life, contributing to research in your field.
Required Qualifications
Priestly Status: A priest in good standing with his Ordinary or Religious Superior, with faculties to celebrate the sacraments.
Academic Pedigree: A terminal degree (Ph.D., S.T.D., or equivalent) is strongly preferred. Candidates nearing completion of a terminal degree will be considered.

The College of St. Joseph the Worker is a Catholic institute of higher learning within the diocese of Steubenville that simultaneously trains students in the Catholic intellectual tradition to earn a BA degree as well as in the skilled trades.A small, tight-knit group of tradesmen, academics, and administrators run the college in downtown Steubenville, OH. We offer very flexible and no set limit to vacation time. All Catholic solemnities are meant to be days off-and so they are. We don't have a ping-pong table at the office, but you could build one as all employees have free access to the woodshop.
