COORDINATOR OF FAITH FORMATION and YOUTH MINISTRY

Position Title - Coordinator of Faith Formation & Youth Ministry
Location - St. Michael Catholic Church, Charlestown, IN
Status - Full-Time

The Coordinator of Faith Formation & Youth Ministry (CFFYM) shares responsibility for the pastoral care and the lifelong faith formation of the parishioners within the overall parish mission. In collaboration with the pastor and other staff members, he or she is responsible for the planning and implementation of youth, young adult, and adult faith formation and sacramental preparation within the daily activities of the parish.

A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The CFFYM is the Coordinator of Religious Education and Faith Formation. He or she manages program content & schedules, recruits and trains volunteers, develops and manages budgets, and coordinates with other parish ministries and activities. In addition, the CFFYM shall -
Under the direction of the Pastor, articulate a vision of catechesis and the catechetical process based on the major catechetical documents of the Church.
Review, evaluate, and develop programs, long- and short-range goals and objectives.
Help the parish community evaluate and carry out its role as a catechizing agent.
Apply appropriate principles of human development, especially faith and moral development, to a catechetical program.
e) Utilize appropriate methodologies of adult-centered and/or child-centered learning.
f) Implement or support a program of catechist formation according to Archdiocesan certification norms.
g) Involve the family as an essential agent in the faith formation process, especially in the faith formation of children and adolescents.
h) Use media and technology for effective program implementation.
i) Incorporate service opportunities, and reflections on these experiences, in catechetical programs for adults, adolescents, and children; especially linking such opportunities to the fostering of peace and justice.
j) Provide opportunities for participation in prayer, personal spiritual development and communal worship.
k) Initiate and maintain accurate records on students, families, catechists, and other participants.
l) Adhere to all Youth Ministry Guidelines, as determined by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Guidelines/Policies can be found here:

m) Complete, and keep current, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Safe Parish Training & Background Check.
n) Represent the parishes of St. Michael & St. Francis Xavier at select Youth Ministry events and activities, as determined by the Pastor.
2. The CFFYM is responsible for developing and implementing all parish faith formation programs, which may include but may not be limited to the following:
a) Adult Faith Formation
(1) Coordinate all Adult Faith Formation programs/activities. Activities may include but are not limited to Bible/Book Study, Parish Retreat, Healing/Penance Services, Speakers, Missions, Pilgrimages, & Service Opportunities.
(2) Coordinate the selection of Adult Faith Formation Materials & Curriculum, including but not limited to books, pamphlets, programs, & videos that may be utilized in formal catechesis of adults or for personal spiritual development and faith formation.
(3) Attend PCL Networking Meetings with Catalyst Catholic
(4) Promote Adult Faith Formation Opportunities outside of St. Michael & St. Francis Xavier, including but not limited to ArchIndy, Mount Saint Francis, Catalyst Catholic, and other Deanery Parishes.
(5) Work with Communications Coordinator to communicate upcoming activities using Bulletin, website, Facebook, print materials, and any other means available.
b) Children's Ministry (Pre-School through Grade 5)
(1) Select or develop programs for Children's Liturgy of the Word and Vacation Bible School
(2) Secure all materials & supplies
(3) Coordinate VBS Sponsorship Program
(4) Recruit, train, and supervise adult and youth volunteers, ensuring all adult volunteers are Safe Parish certified.
(5) Maintain accurate records of registrations and attendance
c) Parish Religious Education Program (PREP - Grades 1-5)
(1) Select or develop program/curriculum and secure all materials needed for classroom instruction
(2) Create Class Schedules
(3) Recruit, train, and supervise catechists, ensuring all catechists are Safe Parish certified.
(4) Maintain accurate records of registrations and attendance
(5) Ensure Circle of Grace is taught & reported to the Archdiocese each year.
(6) Ensure required testing (ie. ARK) is completed each year.
(7) Communicate regularly with parents, the Pastor, and the parish using Bulletin, website, Facebook, print materials, and any other means available
d) Middle/High School Ministry
(1) Serve as main catechist (ie. Youth Minister)
(2) Select or develop program and secure all materials & supplies
(3) Create Middle/High School Ministry Meeting Schedule
(4) Ensure regular opportunities for prayer & spiritual development, catechesis, & service
(5) Recruit, train, and supervise Middle/High School Ministry Volunteers, ensuring all volunteers are Safe Parish certified.
(6) Maintain accurate records of registrations and attendance
(7) Attend networking meetings with Catalyst Catholic
(8) Plan and attend several ministry events each year, including but not limited to: Youth Retreat; NCYC; One Bread,One Cup; March4Life, etc.
(9) Communicate with youth & parents about upcoming activities using Bulletin, website, Facebook, and any other means available
e) First Reconciliation & First Communion
(1) Select or develop program for First Reconciliation & First Communion Preparation
(2) Create class schedule & requirements
(3) Recruit, train, and supervise catechists
(4) Maintain accurate records of registrations and attendance
(5) Verify dates for First Communion practice & Mass
(6) Facilitate First Communion practice & Mass
(7) Secure Baptismal Records and ensure Sacraments are properly recorded
f) Confirmation
(1) Select or develop program for Confirmation Prep
(2) Create class schedule & requirements
(3) Serve as the main Catechist for Confirmation, or assign a volunteer to serve as Catechist
(4) Recruit, train, and supervise Confirmation Prep Volunteers
(5) Maintain registration process, records of attendance in preparation program, & accurate sacrament records
(6) Verify dates and location for Confirmation Mass
(7) Secure Baptismal Records and ensure Sacraments are properly recorded
g) OCIA/OCIC
(1) Assist with the selection or development of a program for OCIA/OCIC Prep
(2) Create class schedule & requirements
(3) Serve as the main Catechist for OCIA/OCIC, or assign a volunteer to serve as Catechist
(4) Recruit, train, and supervise OCIA/OCIC Prep Volunteers
(5) Maintain registration process, records of attendance in preparation program, & accurate sacrament records
(6) Assist pastor with all aspects of OCIA/OCIC Initiation, including Rites and communication with the Archdiocese and the Tribunal, as needed
(7) Secure Baptismal Records and ensure Sacraments are properly recorded
3. Reports & Staff Participation
a) Monitor and respond to emails sent to religioused@northclarkcountycatholic.org.
b) Write & present reports for Supervisor, Parish Council, & Finance Council, upon request
c) Attend Staff Meetings
d) Attend training, retreats, conferences (ex. Campfrence, Bosco Conference, etc.), and other opportunities for spiritual and professional development, as determined by the Pastor.
e) Participate in additional Staff activities as designated by Supervisor

1. Practicing Roman Catholic with a commitment to his/her own faith life, in good standing with the church
2. Willingness to foster the Church's mission.

4. Good organization and planning skills
