Job Description

Saint Joseph Church in Astoria seeks a faith-filled, energetic, and organized individual to serve as Part-Time Youth Minister. The Youth Minister will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and leading a comprehensive youth ministry program for middle school and high school students that fosters spiritual growth, catechesis, service, and community. This includes planning and facilitating regular youth gatherings, retreats, service opportunities, and special events; supporting sacramental preparation in collaboration with catechetical staff; and engaging young people in the life of the parish, especially through participation in the Sunday Eucharist. The Youth Minister will work closely with the Pastor, parish staff, and volunteers to build a welcoming and dynamic environment where young people can grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.

The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong knowledge of the Catholic faith, experience in youth ministry or religious education, and the ability to connect meaningfully with adolescents and their families. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to recruit and train adult volunteers. The Youth Minister must complete all diocesan safe environment requirements and background checks. This part-time position offers an annual salary of $20,000 and flexible hours, including evenings and some weekends, in accordance with parish programming needs.
