Job Description

Background: CHS is an all-girls Catholic college preparatory high school in Manhattan serving 235 young women, most of whom represent economically disadvantaged populations. Our students come from all five New York City boroughs, as well as Long Island and Westchester, and represent 59 nationalities. The student body is also racially diverse: 60.79% Hispanic, 28.05% Black, 7.2% white, and 3.95% Asian. 75% of our students are first or second-generation Americans. 50% of our students will be the first in their families to graduate from college, and 14% of our students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. 85.2% of Cathedral students are eligible for free or reduced New York City lunch, 47% are from single-parent households, and 34% receive public assistance. All student tuition is partly subsidized. 75.5% of our students profess the Catholic faith, and 24.5% practice other faiths.

About the Position: The Communications and Events Associate will join a dynamic team at a historic moment in Cathedral High School's history! As we navigate our recent relocation and launch the school's first-ever comprehensive campaign, the Communications and Events Associate will play a critical role in dramatically growing engagement with alumnae, donors, prospects, and other constituents. This individual will draft all external communication, shape Cathedral's social media and online presence, and coordinate donor and alumnae events.

Responsibilities:

• Produce all copy for print and digital communications pertaining to development and alumnae relations, including but not limited to: annual appeal solicitations and supporting materials, semi-annual alumnae magazine, Giving Tuesday communications, and year-end fundraising
• Work with students and donors to develop strong stories of the impact of our mission on our students
• Build relationships with students, faculty and staff and engage with school community; be in tune with events and happenings to be able to promote, advertise, report, and celebrate on them
• Assist with media production (admissions video)
• Successfully plan and execute donor and alumnae events, including alumnae reunion
• Strategically manage multi-channel social media accounts; create calendar of posts tied to annual school activities and campaigns; write copy and produce corresponding images(LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X)
• Manage updates to website, including information on events, giving, and accomplishments of students and alumnae
• Assist with school-wide communications as needed
• Special projects as needed

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

• Personal commitment to the mission of Cathedral High School
• An understanding of and enthusiasm for Catholic education, values, and culture
• 4-Year college degree
• Experience and knowledge of social media networks and building followings and engaging followers with content on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X
• Experience organizing events from planning to execution and follow-up
• Detail-oriented, highly organized, and with a strong sense of responsibility and teamwork
• Personable and engaging, comfortable dealing with a wide variety of constituents and donors
• Energetic and willingness to learn
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Interest in development and philanthropy
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite, specifically Word and InDesign, Canva, familiarity with or ability to learn Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT
• Professional proficiency / fluency in Spanish preferred
• Experience with e-Catholic preferred
• Photography skills preferred
• Some nights and weekends required
