POSITION: Faith Formation Associate
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Non-Exempt, Hourly with benefits
Reports To: Director of Outreach and Faith Formation and Priest Director

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Faith Formation Associate works in collaboration with Director of Outreach and Faith Formation and the Priest Director to coordinate, organize and oversee student campus ministry activities in the areas of sacramental preparation, discernment, and faith formation. The overall purpose of this position is to work as part of the Outreach and Faith Formation ministry to develop opportunities for students to grow in faith and community. This position includes coordination of meetings and attendance at special events which requires evening and weekend hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Faith Formation
• Serve as staff mentor to the Faith Formation Fellow and Lead Team
o Assist team in development, planning, and execution of faith formation activities
• Coordinate the Catholic Studies Scholarship program from application process to mentoring scholarship students.
o Schedule, coordinate and attend scholar presentations
• Oversee student led faith formation activities such as Apologetics
• Research and develop potential new opportunities for faith formation activities within the realm of college campus ministry
• Coordinate when applicable with the FOCUS mission team

Sacramental Preparation
• Under the supervision of the Priest Director, coordinate and plan the annual sacramental preparation calendar for the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), baptisms, and marriage preparation
• Coordinates the administrative tasks, inquiries, interviews, teaching sessions, rites, and sponsors for those preparing to receive sacraments utilizing the student Fellow and Lead Teams when appropriate
• Communication with Newman Center staff and Fellows for promotion of activities (inquiry sessions, photo opportunities, etc)
• Maintains a working knowledge of requirements for OCIA candidates, wedding preparation and baptisms including requirements specific to the Diocese of Davenport
• Serves as the staff point of contact for those interested in sacrament preparation for OCIA, marriage, and baptism.
• Provide catechetical and sacramental instruction
• Responsible for submitting all sacramental records to St. Mary Catholic Church for recording

Discernment
• Oversee program of activities to engage students in discernment opportunities
• Coordinate visits from priests and religious
• Coordinate Vocations activities such as Vocations dinners

Administrative Duties:
• Assists, supports and promotes all campus ministry programs including recruitment and selection of student leaders, and required development events (two per year)
• Coordinate with staff and student leadership to ensure all events, programs, and activities have communications coverage (advertising, photographer, videographer)
• Provide an accurate and easy to administer filing system for all paper and electronic records
• Attention to and adherence to budget for ministry activities and events
• Provide information to the Development Office on sacramental records for entry into donor database
• Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Outreach and Faith Formation or Priest Director

Education and Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
• Practicing Catholic in good standing, with knowledge of Catholic doctrine, and a demonstrated ability to lead others to be disciples of Jesus.
• Bachelor's degree in theology, Catholic studies, or religious studies or other related coursework from an accredited institution
• Two years in a ministry setting; preferably working with young adults, and/or in a college setting (considered equivalent experience if no Bachelor's Degree is obtained)
• Excellent relationship-building skills with a focus on service to others. Ability to establish trust and work collaboratively.
• Self-starter who can organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal skills
• Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Canva
