Director of Religious Education

Job Description

St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church-a thriving and joy-filled parish of over 5,000 families in the beautiful Upstate of South Carolina-is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Director of Religious Education to lead our RE department and oversee the team that coordinates our religious education and sacramental preparation programs. This full-time position provides direct oversight and support to both our Elementary Religious Education Coordinator and Middle School/Confirmation Coordinator, guiding a passionate team toward deeper discipleship and stronger family engagement.

The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic with a heart for evangelization, a strong catechetical background, and experience managing volunteers and curriculum. You'll collaborate closely with clergy, staff, and parents to create a vibrant formation ministry that fosters authentic encounters with Jesus Christ and equips families to live out their faith in daily life.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Develop and oversee all K-8 faith formation programs, including First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.

Supervise and support the Elementary RE and Middle School/Confirmation Coordinators.

Recruit, train, and form catechists and volunteers for effective ministry.

Collaborate with parents as primary catechists of their children.

Coordinate sacramental celebrations and retreats.

Communicate regularly with families and integrate formation with the larger parish mission.

Qualifications:

Practicing Catholic with a deep love for the Church and the Eucharist.

Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Education, or related field.

2-3 years of experience in parish ministry or religious education.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
