Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Diocesan Director of Faith Formation is responsible for the overall coordination, direction, and management of the Faith Formation Department. The director plays a key role in advancing the bishop's pastoral vision for faith formation across the diocese. This position provides strategic guidance, resources, and support to pastors, parishes, ministry leaders, and families in the areas of evangelization, catechesis, formation, sacramental preparation, and OCIA. Additionally, the Director of Faith Formation fulfills the responsibility of the Regional Coordinator for the Southern Region.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: (including, but not limited to):
• Provide strategic leadership for diocesan faith formation efforts, aligning programs with the bishop's pastoral vision and diocesan priorities.
• Manage departmental budget and resources, ensuring responsible stewardship and effective allocation to support parish and diocesan initiatives.
• Plan, develop and implement goals & long-range plans for Evangelization and Catechesis.
• Develop and implement diocesan-wide catechetical programs that foster lifelong faith formation for all age groups
• Collaborate with parishes to implement family-based faith formation models, providing guidance, resources, and best practices to strengthen the domestic church and engage parents as primary educators of the faith.
• Promote and support adult faith formation initiatives, with a focus on forming missionary disciples through programs, workshops, and resources that inspire ongoing conversion and evangelization.
• Collaborate with other diocesan offices and ministries, building partnerships that strengthen catechesis, evangelization, and pastoral outreach (i.e. Hispanic Ministry, Family Life, Catholic Schools, etc.).
• Oversee the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) process, including developing and delivering training for parish OCIA catechists and serving as a primary resource for pastors and parish facilitators to ensure effective catechesis and accompaniment.
• Hire, supervise and mentor diocesan faith formation staff, fostering professional growth, collaboration, and accountability within the team.
• Regularly evaluate, update and develop diocesan guidelines for sacramental preparation, particularly for First Holy Communion and Confirmation, ensuring consistency, theological integrity, and pastoral sensitivity across all parishes.
• Employ clear, regular and effective communication strategies with pastors, DREs, and catechists. Maintain Faith Formation website, Nimbus page, and social media platforms.
• Represent the diocese at regional and national gatherings, staying current with best practices and trends in catechetical ministry and bringing insights back to inform diocesan strategies.
• Administer and oversee various programs/initiatives approved for implementation by the Director of Catechetical Formation: (Totus Tuus, Catechetical Conference, In-Services, Retreats, Etc.).
• Serve as Regional Coordinator for the Southern Region.
• To serve as liaison with the Persons with Disabilities Resource Group.
• Administration of certification and continuing education for all catechists: Parish Faith Formation Programs, Catholic Schools, etc.
• Regular attendance in all Catechetical Formation Office team meetings, weekly check-in with Director, etc.
• Collect and distribute data as requested by the Diocese for various reports.
• Other tasks as needed and directed by the Director of Catechetical Formation.

Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• The ideal candidate will be a practicing Catholic, faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, registered and active in a parish.
• Possess a bachelor's degree in theology, religious studies, pastoral ministry, or related field (master's degree preferred).
• Have five years of demonstrable successful experience in parish/diocesan work.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Be well-rounded in catechist formation and continuing education.
• Have a good understanding of discipleship and evangelization models in order to assist parishes in deepening their understanding through consultation, formation, and training.
• Possess well-developed written and oral communication skills. Spanish strongly preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Diocesan Pastoral Center. This position is full-time and requires frequent travel to parishes on weeknights, Saturdays, and Sundays.
