ST. BERNARD PREPARATORY SCHOOL
Athletic Director
Reports To: Headmaster
Supervises: Head and assistant coaches across all sports

POSITION SUMMARY
The Athletic Director provides leadership, vision, and administrative oversight for all aspects of St. Bernard Preparatory School's athletic program. The Athletic Director develops student-athletes, supports coaches, and fosters a culture of excellence, integrity, and sportsmanship grounded in the school's Catholic and Benedictine values. This role calls for a leader who can both manage existing programs effectively and build for the future by expanding participation, strengthening systems, and creating a clear vision for long-term success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
-Program Leadership and Vision

-Provide overall leadership and administrative oversight for varsity, junior varsity, and curricular athletic programs.

-Develop and implement a strategic vision for the continued growth and enhancement of St. Bernard athletics.

-Foster a culture rooted in faith, character, discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and competitive achievement.

-Evaluate existing offerings and identify opportunities to increase participation, improve competitiveness, and enrich the student-athlete experience.

-Promote broad student participation and a positive, inclusive environment for student-athletes at all levels.
Coaching Staff Management

-Recruit, hire, supervise, support, and evaluate head and assistant coaches across all sports.

-Promote professional development and establish consistent expectations for communication, leadership, and student mentorship.
Operations, Facilities, and Budget

-Oversee athletic budgets, including equipment, uniforms, transportation, and program-related expenses, with careful stewardship of resources.

-Coordinate practice and competition schedules, officiating, transportation, and game-day operations.

-Manage the use and maintenance of athletic facilities and support planning for future improvements and capital projects.
Compliance and Academic Support

-Ensure compliance with all applicable athletic association rules, eligibility requirements, and safety standards.

-Collaborate with school leadership, faculty, and counselors to monitor student-athlete academic progress and eligibility.
Communications and Community Relations

-Communicate clearly with students, families, coaches, and administrators regarding schedules, expectations, policies, and program updates.

-Serve as the primary athletic liaison to other schools, officials, athletic associations, and the wider community.

-Build and maintain relationships with parents, alumni, and supporters of SBP athletics.

Support initiatives that enhance school spirit and community engagement through athletic events and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

Experience or education in athletic administration, coaching, education, or a related field.

Knowledge of athletic program management, including scheduling, budgeting, personnel supervision, and compliance.
Skills and Attributes

Proven leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Excellent communication and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students, parents, coaches, faculty, alumni, and community partners.

Collaborative leadership style and the ability to work effectively as a member of the school's administrative team.

Commitment to professionalism, sportsmanship, and the development of the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.

POSITION DETAILS
Employment Status: Full-time or part time, year-round
FLSA Classification: non-exempt

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Benefits: Eligible for the school's full benefits package
Work Schedule: Standard business hours with frequent evenings, weekends, and travel for athletic competitions and events throughout the academic year

Physical Requirements: Ability to be present at indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, attend games and practices, and stand for extended periods
