Job Description
Position Summary: Oversee the goals and direction of the Offices of Youth Ministries. This is done by providing direct and indirect services (for Pastors, parish volunteers).Classification: Exempt
Reports To: Rev. John M. Zimmerman
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Both:
• To serve as the representative for the Pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in all matters regarding Youth Ministries.
• To develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for Youth ministries in the parish and community, based on the goals given by the pastor and outlined by the US Bishops. (Assessing and revising as needed)
• To act as a resource for the Pastor and parish staff as needed on issues regarding youth ministries
• To supervise, encourage, affirm, and challenge the Office of Youth ministries staff
• To develop and oversee a budget for the Office of Youth ministries
Youth Ministry:
• To provide training and formation for youth leaders on an ongoing basis. (Continue Education Opportunities/seminars)
• To attend youth deanery meetings
• To provide consultation to parishes in need of program and evangelization support regarding retreats, rallies, and conferences for youth.
• To develop and plan national and international mission trips and pilgrimages for both youth and adults in collaboration with parish leadership.
• To help parishes in the recruitment and retention of youth volunteers.
• To develop guidelines/procedures for those involved in youth ministry
• To serve as a sounding board for the Pastor, other clergy and parish staff.
• To create and teach others as the leader how to communicate using social media for the parish, youth ministries in collaboration with diocesan communications.
• To develop and lead several weekend camps (plus, recruiting and training staff for each camp).
• To develop and lead social justice opportunities for youth.
• To visit parishes on a regular basis. Hold regular deanery meetings in each deanery.
• To provide resources for Pastor, and youth leaders (programming and curriculum)
• To collaborate with other parish ministries and parishioners in the development of events.
• To contact the families of youth to improve the chances of more youth getting involved.
• To provide a formation program for youth volunteers on a regular basis.
• In conjunction with the parish's evangelization mission, coordinate with those in the Hispanic community to attend the retreats and meetings.
• To initiate fund-raising and social justice activities for the youth to participate in.
Hispanic Ministry:
• To coordinate with the various ministries and heads any communication from the pastor.
• To lead catechetical efforts in the OCIA and OCIC, keeping the parish's Faith Formation Director informed.
• If needed by the Pastor, translate homilies and other documents as needed.
• To coordinate between Pastor, ministry heads, and parishioners upcoming parish events
• To serve as a parish presence at Masses, ready to make announcements, at least at the Hispanic Mass.
• To be aware of Hispanic community needs and share with the Pastor and/or parish staff.
• To attend Hispanic deanery or diocesan meetings and bring back any findings or information that the Pastor should be aware of.
• To attend parish meetings, representing the Hispanic segment of our parish community.
• To coordinate any liturgical events, such as Eucharistic Adoration days, with the Hispanic community.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintaining active membership in regional or provincial organizations.
• Any reasonable requests or projects requested by the Pastor.
Education Requirements/Position Qualifications: Master's in theology or Pastoral Administration preferred, and a Certificate in Youth Ministry (Approved by the USSCB). Leadership, Vision, Excellent communication, public speaking, and organizational skills required. Excellent computer and social media required. Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing. Driver's license required. Must be able to speak and understand Spanish and English.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: This position requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, using hands, using feet, climbing/balancing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching above shoulders, and tasting/smelling at least 1/3 of the time. This position requires that you lift up to 100 pounds at least 1/3 of the time.
Recommendations: It is highly recommended that this person have a spiritual director, attending at least somewhat regularly.
