Part Time School Security Guard Job Description
Reports To: School Principal / Business Manager
Rate: $30.00 per hour
Location: Schools of St. Mary, Manhasset, NY

Position Summary
The Part Time School Security Guard provides a visible, professional security presence during school hours to help ensure student, staff, and visitor safety. Responsibilities include building checks before student arrival, supervising exterior access points and parking areas as assigned, greeting families and assisting students at drop off, observing and reporting suspicious activity, and performing other duties necessary to maintain a secure school environment. Preferred candidate must respect and support the Catholic identity of St. Mary's and must not display hostility toward the Church, its teachings, or its leadership in public or in the course of their duties.

Key Responsibilities
* Building Checks: Beginning of day - Conduct a thorough walk through of assigned buildings and grounds before students and staff arrive to identify and report hazards, unsecured doors/windows, or unusual conditions. End of day - Make sure the buildings are secure.
* Greeting and Assistance: Warmly greet parents, caregivers, and students as they arrive. Offer courteous assistance to students who may need help. Help maintain an orderly drop off flow.
* Access Point Monitoring: Staff designated security stations at building entrances and interior/exterior doors when assigned; verify authorized entry and direct visitors to sign in procedures, if any.
* Parking Lot Oversight: Monitor assigned parking lots and drop off lanes to ensure safe traffic flow, adherence to posted regulations, and safe student drop off/pick up procedures.
* Observation & Reporting: Maintain vigilance for suspicious individuals, vehicles, or situations. Immediately notify school administration and follow established incident reporting and emergency response procedures.
* Communication: Maintain clear, calm, and professional communication with staff, parents, students, and emergency responders when necessary.
* Recordkeeping: Complete required logs, incident reports, and sign in/out records accurately and promptly.
* Other Duties: Assist with event security, lockdown/drill support, or other tasks as needed to maintain a secure school environment.

Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Prior experience in law enforcement.
* CPR/AED and basic first aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain is preferred.
* Ability to pass background checks, agree to the Pastoral Code of Conduct, and attend a 3 hour child-protection class, and any required pre employment screenings.
* Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and follow emergency protocols.
* Strong interpersonal skills; courteous, patient, and professional demeanor with children, parents, and staff.
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform light physical tasks.

Working Conditions
* Morning shift - Afternoon shifts - 4.25 hours each (start and end times vary according to school building requirements)
* Outdoor and indoor duties in all typical school weather conditions.
* May be required to work in a variety of settings (parking lot, entrances, hallways).

Compensation & Benefits
* $30.00 per hour.
* This is a part-time position. No benefits are included.
