Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Primary function is to help users by providing customer service assistance at the Circulation Desk face-to-face, by telephone, or via e-mail.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide assistance at the library circulation desk. 40%
2. Publicize library activities and materials including special collections through displays, bibliographies, brochures, web sites, social media, etc. 20%
3. Manage Interlibrary Loan and Course Reserves. 20%
4. Monitor and train student assistants within an assigned area. 10%
5. Other duties as assigned. 10%
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from four-year college. Strong liberal arts background.
EXPERIENCE: Some experience in libraries or book-related field helpful, but not necessary. This can be an entry-level position.
CERTIFICATION: N/A
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good background in humanities required. Familiarity with Catholic theology and culture preferred. Enough understanding of computers to learn and use the Library electronic resources and the integrated library system.
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Position requires sitting for long periods of time and the visual and manual ability to use a computer keyboard. May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) moderate weights of 30 lbs and the ability to push a loaded book cart.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors with minimal safety hazards, and requires seated, standing, and movement work.
