Job Description

The Financial Controller is responsible for the overall financial health and reporting of Holy Cross Province. This position oversees daily accounting operations, ensures compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, and supports leadership through clear, strategic financial reporting. The Controller plays a critical role in ensuring the responsible use of financial resources in support of the Passionists' mission, charism and commitment to serving those most in need.

Key Responsibilities
• Manage all day-to-day accounting functions: general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, cash management and payroll.
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit standards.
• Lead the annual budgeting process, working collaboratively with the Director of Finance and ministry leaders.
• Coordinate and manage annual audits and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and church-related financial and tax reporting requirements.
• Develop and maintain financial policies and internal controls to ensure transparency and accountability.
• Track and report on restricted funds, grants, and designated contributions.
• Supervise accounting staff or collaborate with external financial service providers.
• Provide leadership with financial analysis to guide decision-making and long-term planning.
• Communicate financial information clearly and respectfully to both lay staff, leadership and religious members.

Qualifications
Education & Certification
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred.
Experience
• 5-7 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit, religious or mission-based setting.
• Knowledge of fund accounting, nonprofit compliance and donor reporting.
• Experience with financial operations in a religious or multi-ministry environment is a plus.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
Technical Skills
• Proficient in accounting software.
• Strong Microsoft Office and financial reporting capabilities.

• Ability to work individually and collaboratively with religious leadership and lay staff.
