Job Description
OVERVIEW OF POSITION:A Discipleship Coordinator is a key member of the Evangelization Team and reports directly to the Director of Mission and Discipleship. Under the leadership of the Director of Mission and Discipleship, the Discipleship Coordinator organizes and implements parish-wide faith formation to win, build, and send disciples of Jesus. This includes, but is not limited to: large group faith formation and activities, small groups, retreats, and sacramental preparation. The Discipleship Coordinator works with all members of the Evangelization Team to prepare parish leaders, especially facilitators and catechists, through shepherding, formation, and training. In addition, together with the Evangelization Team, the Discipleship Coordinator is responsible for administrative duties relating to faith formation activities.
SPECIFICS OF POSITION:
The primary responsibility of the Discipleship Coordinator is to lead the children and youth of our parish into a deeper relationship with Jesus. The Discipleship Coordinator is entrusted with recruiting, forming, empowering and shepherding a team of catechists who share this desire for making disciples. Each month, the Discipleship Coordinator is charged to create a vibrant, VBS-style event (offered twice) that mirrors the joy and energy of Catholic summer camp-fostering friendship, fun, and an introduction to our monthly faith themes. In addition, the Discipleship Coordinator of Children and Youth works with the Evangelization Team and catechists to provide proximate preparation for children, youth, and their parents as they journey toward receiving the Sacraments of Confession, Eucharist, and Confirmation. This is a mission-driven position requiring initiative, creativity, and a deep desire to glorify God and make disciples.
I. Evangelization Team Responsibilities:
Attends weekly staff formation (1.5 hours).
Participates in weekly Evangelization Team meetings (1.5 hours).
Attends weekly 1:1 with the supervisor, the Director of Mission and Discipleship (1 hour).
Collaborates with all Evangelization Team members to provide continuous and coordinated evangelization opportunities for the entire parish.
II. Catechetical Team Responsibilities:
Coordinates, attends, and facilitates monthly large group Family of Faith events.
Recruits, shepherds, forms, trains, and supports parish leaders and small group facilitators and/or catechists for those participating in faith formation.
Prepares and facilitates retreats and rehearsals for those seeking the Sacraments; additionally, assists with the preparation for and the celebration of respective sacraments.
Provides curriculum, catechetical materials, calendar, and programming for facilitators and/or catechists in area of responsibility (ie Family of Faith, OCIA/RICA, small groups, etc.).
Assists with evaluation of previous year's evangelization efforts, in order to discern, develop, and implement improvements.
Helps review/update registration forms, as well as assist with the registration process and updating of current families in faith formation.
III. Professional Development:
Attends yearly staff retreat.
Attends Getting Started at the Diocese, as well as other diocesan required events.
Participates in Reach More Training Group.
Attends an annual spiritual retreat (approved by Parochial Administrator).
IV. Working Environment
Office presence requires a minimum of 20 hours per week. This position requires off-site work, including five to six evenings a month and one to two weekends (8-16 hours) a month.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for someone who has:

strong presentation skills to both small and large groups;

the ability to make sound decisions and troubleshoot to solve problems;
the ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit integrity, honesty, and a high degree of ethics;

experience with and understanding of Hispanic cultures.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the direction of the Director of Mission and Discipleship.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Small group facilitators and/or catechists
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary | 40 hours per week |12 months
