Job Description
St Gabriel- Indianapolis is seeking a mission-driven Director of Religious Education (DRE) to lead and oversee the parish's Religious Education programs for children (Preschool-12th grade) and adults. The DRE will articulate a vision for catechesis, manage sacramental preparation, recruit and train volunteer catechists, and develop engaging curriculum rooted in Church teaching. This role requires strong leadership, collaboration, administrative and communication skills, as well as a deep commitment to the Catholic faith.Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and lead parish-wide faith formation for children, youth, adults, and catechists
• Recruit, train, and support volunteer catechists; provide ongoing formation and evaluation.
• Oversee sacramental preparation:
o Families for the baptism of their children
o A children's catechetical program for grades K-12 that includes preparation for Reconciliation and First Communion.
o Confirmation preparation for youth.
o Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) Program
• Provide life-long family formation and adult faith formation opportunities including Bible studies, retreats, pilgrimages, and other
• Continued personal theological, spiritual, and professional development
• Manage faith formation budgets, schedules, records, and communication
Qualifications:
• Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church with knowledge of the Church's teachings, liturgy, and structure
• Passionate about evangelization, Catholic education, and formation of community
• Masters Degree in Theology, Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies or Education with a major focus in Theology or Religious Studies.
• Three years' experience as a catechist or teacher.
• Experience with administration, especially working with volunteers and program planning.
• Willingness to learn and implement the policies, procedures, and curriculum of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
• Proficiency in Spanish is highly preferred
