Job Description

SUMMARY:

This exempt position of Director of Pastoral Care is responsible for developing, implementing and administering pastoral care to the sister residents at Camilla Hall within the framework of the IHM charism and culture. The director works collaboratively with superiors and the administrator in coordinating the many aspects of the pastoral, spiritual and sacramental life of the sisters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supports the Mission, Philosophy and Core Values of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
2. Assures Pastoral Care policies and procedures are implemented.
3. Ministers in a compassionate and empathetic manner, which includes listening, caring and supporting in a way that is most beneficial to the Sister.
4. Meets the pastoral/spiritual needs of the Sisters, including offering pastoral care to those who just transitioned to Camilla and those in the hospital.
5. Coordinates with the pastoral team, the sacramental, liturgical and prayer opportunities.
6. Supports Sisters and staff at times of personal loss and grieving.
7. Assists and supports the duties of the resident priest chaplains and provides hospitality to visiting Clergy.
8. Oversees and gives support to the team member who assigns and supervises Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist.
9. Oversees and assists the sacred responsibilities of the Sacristan.
10. Works collaboratively with those involved in planning Sisters' funerals.
11. Collaborates with volunteer coordinators, to orient and support pastoral care volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Previous experience in long-term care or experience in working with the geriatric population in another healthcare setting is preferred.
2. A Master's Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Care, Spirituality or a similar discipline is preferred.
3. Clinical Pastoral Education: 4 units preferred but not required, as well as management experience.
4. A heart for serving others through compassionate care.
5. Knowledge and understanding of the Sacramental and Liturgical life of the Roman Catholic Church and the diverse spirituality among its members. An understanding of vowed religious life lived in community.
6. An understanding of the Mission, Vision, and Values of The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, or a willingness to come and learn.
