Job Description
SEEKING FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME FACULTY MEMBERSChesterton Academy of St. Francis of Assisi, a joyfully Catholic classical co-educational high school opening in New Britain, CT in August 2026, seeks faithful and talented educators to serve as members of its founding faculty. We are seeking both full-time and part-time teachers with specializations in one or more of the following areas:
• Humanities (History, Literature, Philosophy, and Latin)
• Math and Science
• Visual Arts and Music
• Physical Education
Note: Full-time teachers will be responsible for teaching multiple subject areas.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, committed to the teachings of the Church and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium
• Deep commitment to the mission of Chesterton Academy and its three pillars of forming students in spirit, intellect, and virtue
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in the relevant subject area; candidates applying to teach multiple subjects must hold a degree in at least one area and demonstrate substantial knowledge or experience in the others
• Prior teaching experience is advantageous, though new graduates with a strong commitment to Catholic classical education are encouraged to apply; familiarity with the Socratic method and the Great Books approach is also a significant advantage
• Strong initiative and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
• Excellent rapport with students, parents, and fellow faculty and staff members
• Strong classroom management skills and the ability to foster an orderly, respectful environment conducive to learning and discussion
• Outstanding organizational skills and strong written and verbal communication abilities
• Enthusiasm for supporting the life of the school, including participation in daily Mass (depending on availability for part-time faculty), the House system, and community events
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Reports directly to the Headmaster
• Teach assigned courses with engaging and well-prepared lessons, employing the Socratic method and seminar-style discussion (depending on subject) to foster attentive reading, thoughtful dialogue, and active intellectual engagement.
• Follow the Chesterton Schools Network (CSN) curriculum with fidelity; lesson plans and materials are provided through CSN
• Assess and record student progress using the school's online grading system and provide written evaluations as needed
• Collaborate with headmaster and faculty colleagues on curriculum and instruction
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school in-service days
• Supervise students outside the classroom, including during lunch, after school, school events, field-trips, and retreats
• Willingness to facilitate extracurricular activities
COMPENSATION
• Salary commensurate with experience and teaching responsibilities
