Job Description

St. Michael Poplar Springs Church in Mt. Airy, Maryland, is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic candidate for the full-time role of Pastoral Associate for Evangelization and Adult Faith Formation. This 40-hour-per-week exempt position includes benefits and requires flexibility for evening and weekend hours as determined by the Pastor. Reporting directly to the Pastor and overseeing the Faith Formation Team, the Pastoral Associate for Evangelization and Faith Formation will lead and manage all faith formation programs and ministries including sacramental preparation programs such as baptism, first reconciliation, first communion, and confirmation, the Order of Christian Initiation for Children and Adults, as well as Family Faith Formation. The scheduled hours are weekdays and Sundays; some evening hours are required.
Essential Functions:
• Participate and be visibly present at parish liturgies and events particularly on Sundays.
• Supervises the Youth Discipleship Coordinator and work with administrative coordinator to maintain records and communications for all volunteers, parents, candidates, and participants involved in Faith Formation activities.
• Manage and coordinate all catechetical and sacramental ministry programs.
• Uphold and align with the vision of the pastor and parish leadership.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of all formation ministry programs and adjust strategies as needed.
• Produce and implement yearly Faith Formation calendar and program activities.
• Connect and effectively communicate with families on a regular basis regarding all faith formation programs and activities.
• Manage and implement content for sacramental preparation programs for OCIA, Baptism, Marriage, First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
• Manage and ensure the implementation of content of children's faith formation, youth ministry, and adults small groups.
• Oversee evangelization efforts of the St Michael Poplar Springs Parish.
• Advocate for the importance of family, youth, and children's ministry within the parish community.
• Facilitate recruitment and training of catechists and volunteers for all faith formation programs.
• Participate in ongoing training, meetings, evaluations, and seek feedback from the staff, catechists and parents to update programs.
• Evaluate and supervise the curriculum for Religious Education/ Faith formation.
• Oversee sacramental catechesis for the children and all aspects of that formation program.
• Implement family catechesis program to engage parents in the formation programs.
• Plan and implement Children's Liturgy of the Word.
• Select curriculum and perform all administrative tasks related to faith formation programs such as communicating with parents, registration of children, keeping volunteer records, and ensuring compliance with all child protection and archdiocesan policies.
• Plan and coordinate family centered activities and events.
• Annual preparation of and responsible management of a budget for all income and expenses related to the Parish Faith Formation Programs.
• Attendance at staff meetings, team meetings, and Archdiocese meetings and gatherings.
Position Qualifications:
• Practicing Roman Catholic, fully able to participate in the sacramental life of the Church.
• Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Education or related field, preferred but not required.
• Relevant work experience in Religious Education and Youth Ministry as a leader, teacher, or volunteer will be highly considered.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent organization and time management skills.
• Effective public speaking skills
• Awareness of pop culture, trends, and current events relevant to the next and younger generations.
• Interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work effectively with children and parents, other staff members, parish volunteers, and parish young adults.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and with electronic media (i.e. social media)
• Working knowledge of social media platforms that work with parents and families.
• Must have the ability to honor and maintain confidentiality in ALL matters and protect personal records of parishioners and staff.
• Ability to work evenings and weekend hours.
• Ability and willingness to learn new skills, if needed.
• Ability to pursue further education and formation as recommended by the Pastor.
Range: $65,000-$75,000, Salary
