Job Description
General Summary of the PositionFamily & Faith Formation Ministry at Christ the King encompasses parish-wide ministry for families with young children, nursery-aged through high school youth, and young adults. The Director of Faith Formation is a full-time position responsible for managing the four team members that coordinate these ministries. Additionally, the Director serves in senior parish leadership, discerning how to best serve parishioners and helping lead parish projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
Team Leadership
• Implement vision of the Pastor for Family & Faith Formation, under direct supervision of Pastor
• Manage & supervise the Family & Faith Formation Ministry staff: Coordinator of Youth Sacraments, High School & Young Adult Minister, Children's Ministry Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant
- Communicate regularly with team both electronically and in person, including regular team meetings
- Discern and provide necessary team formation and professional development
- Ensure team spirituality and focus on serving Jesus
- Nurture team culture and provide visionary, administrative, and programmatic support for team to succeed in their roles
- Develop and uphold processes within the team that enable it to function smoothly
- Be present at all major events hosted by Family & Faith Formation Ministry, such as, but not limited to: 1st Reconciliation, 1st Communion, Confirmation, retreat send-offs, Vacation Bible Camp/Faith and Service Week, and CTK Kick-Off in September
- Hold bi-annual review meetings for team members
• Own team vision, mission, and strategy for forming disciples of Jesus Christ
• Design, evaluate, and offer programs and pastoral approach in light of team's "discipleship pathway"
• Lead yearly strategic planning efforts
• Manage annual team calendaring and planning
• Manage the communication plan to catechists, volunteers, registered program participants, and parishioners who fall within the demographics we serve
• Provide recommendations for and manage team budget
• Manage the youth meeting space, schedule, and policies
Programs & Pastoral Approach
• Deepen parish volunteer culture among adults and youth. Coordinate volunteer/catechist management according to the "Recruit, Train, Retain" categories.
• Advocate for and cultivate a pro-youth and pro-family culture at Christ the King resulting in greater awareness of youth and family realities, greater investment of resources allocated toward the youth and family in the community, desire to have healthy relationships with young people in the community, and integration of youth and young families in the life of the parish
• Meet regularly with parishioners to listen to their needs and provide discipleship opportunities
• Continue work from "Framing our Future", a staff effort to discern ministerial efforts currently missing at our parish that resulted in several new initiatives that the pastor has asked to be implemented. Some of these initiatives which fall under Family & Faith Formation Ministry include family retreats and pilgrimages, College Ministry, and support of parents with children who have fallen away from the Church.
• Maintain active list of counselors and provide connections between parishioners and counselor-options
Collaboration & Relationship
• Serve in collaborative pastoral teams in ad hoc or permanent arrangements as desired by the Pastor
• Work collaboratively with Christ the King School, particularly in regard to sacramental preparation & reception, and foster relationship with entity as a whole, parents, and staff
• Peripherally support Christ the King School campus ministry when appropriate
• Collaborate with senior parish leadership on strategic planning and parish-wide initiatives
• Build relationships with community entities who share common concern for the well-being of our families (such as neighboring schools, service organizations, etc.)
• Build relationships with leaders from neighboring faith communities
• Share resources with other parishes as appropriate and desirable
• Promote participation in diocesan youth efforts such as the Dallas Catholic Youth Conference
• Seek and participate in diocesan and national professional development opportunities
Position Requirements
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
• Disciple of Jesus Christ, active member of the Catholic Church
• Confident in articulating the teachings of the Catholic faith in a manner that is attractive, orthodox, and age-appropriate
• Strong interpersonal skills with both youth and adults
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to professionally communicate, minister to, and represent the Christ the King community
• Pastorally sensitive and comfortable navigating crisis situations with families
• Excellent capabilities with Microsoft Office and capable of learning new technology platforms such as databases, Flocknote, Canva, eSpace, etc.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative and creative environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Strong organizational skills
• Confident leader and manager
• Public speaking skills preferred
• Event management skills preferred
Education and Experience
• Master's Degree in related field or 10+ years of ministry required
• Significant ministry experience required
Special Considerations
• Must be able to accommodate flexible working hours, with frequent evening and weekend responsibilities
• The Family & Faith Formation Ministry offers regular Sunday programming from September to mid-May, and the Director needs to be able to attend with regularity.
