Job Description

The Catholic Church of St. Mary is searching for a part-time youth minister beginning in the 2026-27 school year. This person must have a passion for sharing their faith in Jesus Christ and the Church with our youth ranging from ages 4-18. The ideal candidate serves as the architect of two ministries: Youth Ministry (ages 11-18), and Christ's Kids Liturgy of the Word (ages 4-8). Total work hours are 15 per week, with a possibility of up to 20. This may be a combination of in-person and remote work, and must be present on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

This leader reports directly to the pastor, and acts as a team player with all parish staff, particularly our Director of Religious Education, and Office Manager. In addition, this leader must work well with their adult volunteers as they develop a missionary spirit enabling the youth to realize their personal and communal call as missionary disciples of Christ. This minister is responsible for integrating year-round youth activities into parish life while keeping in mind the guidelines stated within the USCCB documents Renewing the Vision & Sons and Daughters of the Light. If hired, the applicant is subject to fingerprinting and background check, along with VIRTUS training as per Diocese of Camden's guidelines.

Specific Duties:

Direct Saint Mary's youth ministry (students ages 11-18, grades 6-12).
- Develop and implement age appropriate activities including socials, community service projects on and off campus, and fundraisers.
- Facilitate adult volunteer team for assistance in social/service-oriented activities, including chaperoning, set-up/breakdown, and ideas for future events.
- Manage the sponsored library in the church building, keeping books organized and stocked, obtaining new titles for different ages, and oversee volunteer operations.
- Ensure proper maintenance of the "Pollinator Garden" through youth and adult volunteers. Planting, watering, weed removal, and more, are necessary.
- Manage and maintain budget/expenses.
- Encourage youth participation in Mass (ex. greeters, lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist), and other sacramental celebrations.

Direct "Christ's Kids Liturgy of the Word" (children ages 4-8)
- Maintain a core adult volunteer team to teach every 10:30am Mass during the school year; this includes scheduling.
- Direct class if volunteers are not available.
- Provide print material and teaching aids.
- Lessons books and reading materials for the adult leaders.
- Weekly handouts based on Sunday's Gospel for the children.

Attend and offer input at the Parish Council and staff meetings, along with any other relevant meetings

Candidate Profile:
- A college degree from an accredited university is preferred. A degree in the Religious Studies field is a plus.
- Must be an active member of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Experience inspiring others to work together to achieve organizational excellence.
- Has a desire and passion to work with the youth.
- Prior experience working with children and youth.
