Job Description

General Summary of the Position
The teacher collaborates in the effective operation of a Catholic education program by supporting the goals and spirit of Catholic education in general and the school programs in particular; ensuring an effective instructional program; continuing in professional growth; encouraging student educational growth and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

Catholic Identity and Faith Community
• Teacher supports and implements the mission of Catholic education and St. Mary's School.
• Teacher models Jesus and promotes Gospel values.
• Teacher participates in building a faith community at St. Mary's School.
• The teacher demonstrates to the students, to the St. Mary's community, and to the Diocese of Tyler, through word and deeds, an example of Christian virtues, real pride, confidence and conviction in the teaching profession of Catholic Education.
Instructional Process
• Teacher responds to the needs of the total child, working to understand each student.
• Teacher works to cultivate a spirit of consideration, courtesy, and refinement to prepare each student to assume his or her place in society.
• Teacher provides for individualized learning and works to meet various learning styles.
• Teacher works to create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students; it is in harmony with school rules and diocesan policy.
• Teacher guides the learning process toward the achievement of diocesan curriculum goals and in harmony with those goals, designs lessons in clear, logical, and sequential formats, which establish clear objectives and student learning goals.
• Teacher selects appropriate content and plans appropriate activities for students.
• Teacher continually monitors students' application of skills and concepts, checks for understanding, and reteaches as needed to ensure student progress.
• Teacher evaluates students' progress effectively, using a variety of assessments, both formative and summative, providing timely feedback and intervention.
• Teacher submits lesson plans in a timely fashion to document learning goals, objectives, activities, and assessments taking place in class.
Educational Partnership
• The teacher demonstrates empathy in relations with students, parents, colleagues, and other community members by genuinely considering the feelings, value systems, culture, interests, achievements, and concerns of the person.
• Teacher works to foster a strong partnership between school and home through frequent communications, effective use of school website, regular posting of grades, and participation in parent/teacher conferences as needed to build bridges.
• Teacher collaborates with other members of the school faculty and staff to address the needs of the total student and to provide higher-level, cross-curricular activities for students.
Professional Development
• Teacher assumes responsibility for acquiring the leadership and teaching skills necessary for fulfilling his/her assigned duties through professional growth.
• Teacher takes an active role in working as a part of departmental and level teams to promote strategic planning, vertical alignment, and data management.
Interpersonal Relationships
• Teacher works cooperatively with Administration to support and enforce school policies and procedures.
• Teacher maintains a professional methodology when dealing with parents, students, and other faculty/staff.
• Teacher maintains confidentiality in accordance with the Buckley Amendment, Diocesan policy, and St. Mary's School policy.
Other Professional Responsibilities
• Teacher carries out extra duties, directives, and policies of the school administration with a positive Christian spirit.
• Teacher fulfills supervision duties as assigned. Supervision duties may include but are not limited to: morning duty, carline duty, hallway supervision, student gathering space supervision, lunch duty, lunch recess/playground supervision, afternoon carline supervision, late duty supervision. Teachers must supervise students at all times in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms and other locations on the St. Mary's School campus. No student should ever be left unattended.
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Specific knowledge in assigned content area(s) and assigned grade-level(s).
• Technologically Proficient: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), RenWeb, Email, Edline website.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelors' Degree in an appropriate field with at least 18 credit hours in science, math, or technology including some combination of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy, Environmental Science, Astronomy, Engineering, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Analysis, Calculus I II III, Statistics, Computing, Software Construction / Design, Discrete Structures, Algorithms, etc.
• Current Secondary Teaching Certificate
Physical Requirements:
• While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hand/wrists.
• Teachers must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
• Teachers may need to climb stairs and lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to 50 pounds.
• Teachers must be able to respond effectively to emergency situations.
Special Requirements:
• Maintain current Child Abuse Training provided by the Department of Family and Protective Services - (Update every year.)
• Maintain current CPR/First Aid Training provided by the school - update every two years.
• Maintain Ethics and Integrity Training through Virtus, including all required background checks and renewals.
