I. Title: Coordinator of Family Catechism
Status: 25-32 hours a week (Salary or Hourly)
Supervisor: Pastor
Supervise: Volunteers
II. Primary Functions
At St. Mary of the Knobs, we are committed to making disciples and living as disciples. The Coordinator of Catechetical Ministry for families plays a vital role in fostering a parish culture where all ages grow in faith, live as missionary disciples, and participate fully in the life of the Church.
III. Position Content
The Coordinator of Family Catechism supports the mission of St. Mary of the Knobs to form disciples of Jesus Christ by providing vision, leadership, and coordination for faith formation of children and families. The ideal candidate is a faithful Catholic who is gifted in relational ministry, passionate about evangelization, and possesses exceptional communication and leadership skills.
III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Catechism: Kindergarten-Grade 12
• Plans and Coordinates registration
• Order all books and materials
• Catechists
Ongoing recruitment
Provides formation and training
Monitors Safe & Sacred Compliance
• Curriculum
Reviews Lesson Plans for adherence to Archdiocesan Curriculum Guidelines
Assures that all textbooks and materials being used are on the USCCB's Conformity list or approved by the Pastor
Assures the readiness of facilities and materials needed for the session.
• Children's Liturgy of the Word and Children's Revival Grant
Sacrament Preparation
First Reconciliation & Eucharist
• Collaborate with the youth minister and school staff to prepare students
• Responsible for parent sacramental catechesis
• Plans Liturgy/Sacrament in conjunction with Pastor and Catechists
Order of Christian Initiation for Children
• Hold separate sessions or in-home preparation for those youth beyond typical sacramental preparation years.
• Responsible for the acquisition and verification of all baptismal records
Confirmation
Collaborate with the youth minister and school staff to prepare eighth-grade students
for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Family Catechism
Recruit volunteers and work with the Spiritual Life Commission to coordinate family-focused catechism.
Outreach and Service Commission
• Collaborate with the Outreach and Service Commissions to raise awareness of those in need through education, community opportunities, and parish initiatives.
• Be in contact with the Outreach and Service Commissions to collaborate in the mission of forming and making disciples.
Volunteer Recruitment & Formation
• Recruit, train, mentor, and support catechists and formation volunteers.
• Foster a culture of servant leadership and spiritual growth among all who serve.
• Provide ongoing formation and appreciation for volunteers in line with diocesan standards.
Communication & Administration
• Communicate clearly and proactively with parents, families, staff, and the wider parish through email, bulletin, website, and social media.
• Coordinate program calendars and facility scheduling.
• Maintain accurate records for all faith formation programs.
• Manage budgets, curriculum selection, diocesan compliance, and Safe Environment protocols.
Leadership and Oversight
IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
• Practicing Catholic with a passion for the Church's mission of evangelization and catechesis.
• Bachelor's degree in Theology, Education, or related field.
• Experience in parish or diocesan ministry.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to recruit, inspire, and form volunteers.
• Technologically proficient (Microsoft Office, Canva, ParishSoft, etc.).
