Youth Minister

Job Description

Church of the Nativity in beautiful Charleston, SC is seeking to hire a dynamic Youth Minister to start and develop a new, vibrant discipleship program for our parish middle and high school parishioners and Catholic School students.

The ideal candidate will be a joyful, outgoing, confident, and inviting person who loves the Church and wants to share the joy of the Gospel with others. Applicant must be a practicing Roman Catholic, and able to articulate the Truth of the Gospel and teachings of the Catholic Church effectively.

The Youth Minister is responsible for developing and implementing opportunities for middle and high school youth (6th - 12th grade) that help them encounter Jesus Christ and his Church through weekly catechetical sessions, small groups, youth gatherings, and retreats.

The Youth Minister will develop relationships with youth and their parents to foster spiritual formation and pastoral care; build and nurture a core team of volunteers; work together with other staff members and ministry leaders to integrate youth into the life of the parish; provide opportunities for outreach and retreat experiences; and coordinate with the Office of Youth Ministry and/or local youth ministers to provide access to larger diocesan and Catholic community events and experiences. The Youth Minister will work under the supervision of the Pastor.

Candidates should be familiar with social media and current cultural issues youth encounter.

Candidate should be detail oriented; possess good time-management skills and the ability to multi-task; possess excellent written and verbal communication and record keeping skills; be reliable; possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team; manage budget and logistical planning; be able to complete all required background screens and safe environment training, able to adhere to parish and diocesan policies as applicable; have a valid SC driver's license.

Bachelors Degree in Youth Ministry, Education, Theology, Religious Studies, or related field is desired. Experience in Youth Ministry, Catechesis, or related field is desired.

This position requires frequent evening and weekend work. Some remote work is negotiable. Starting salary 42K-50K commensurate with experience.
