Job Description

The Harvard Catholic Center (HCC) in Cambridge, MA, USA, is seeking a Roman Catholic priest in good standing for full time service as Chaplain to the twelve Graduate and Professional Schools at Harvard University, beginning June/July, 2027.

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the Harvard Senior Catholic Chaplain and Harvard Undergraduate Chaplain, the Graduate School Chaplain provides and discerns ongoing spiritual, sacramental and pastoral outreach to the Harvard community. Presently, the main scope of work is outreach to Graduate and Professional School Students, the young professionals in the area (commonly referred to as GS/YP), and their leadership teams. This includes regular/daily visits to various campus locations; coordinating Days of Recollection; monthly social events; weekly Confession/Rosary and monthly Eucharistic Adoration; a guest speaker series; marriage preparation; overseeing service opportunities, and connection and outreach to alumni. Masses sometimes are celebrated at different locations.

The Graduate School Chaplain also serves regularly on the daily and weekend Mass and confession schedule at St. Paul's Parish (under whose umbrella the HCC falls), which is the main place of worship and gathering for the Catholic community at Harvard. Interaction with Harvard faculty, staff and parishioners occurs there regularly. The Graduate Chaplain is also a member of the Harvard Chaplains group, a body of 40 chaplains of different denominations which meets monthly.

The GS/YP Chaplain works in close collaboration with the HCC Advancement Director (taking an active role in fundraising) and the HCC Director of Marketing and Media.

Salary and benefits are provided by the Harvard Catholic Center (in accord with the Archdiocese's of Boston Remuneration schedule), as well as room and board in the parish rectory, which is on site.
One week's retreat and four weeks' vacation are built into the schedule. A minimum five-year commitment is optimal.

Requirements for Application:

The candidate is a diocesan or religious priest in good standing and possesses a doctoral degree or comparable achievement. He must adhere to the full teaching of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. At least two years' experience in a university setting chaplaincy is preferred. He must work well in a team-oriented ministry.
