Director of Finance and Operations

Job Description

The Director of Finance & Operations serves as a key member of the Catholic Schools Office (CSO) leadership team, responsible for supporting designing, implementing, and evaluating financial and operational best practices for Catholic Schools across the Archdiocese of Boston in collaboration with other Pastoral Center departments. This position builds pathways for pastors, principals, business managers and advisory board to leverage existing resources and strategies for financial well-being, operational vitality and long-term sustainability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Implementation & Program Maintenance
Collaborate with Catholic Schools Office colleagues to implement financial and operational strategies to support school leaders and build capacity within individual school communities.
Prepare and review school business plans, budgets, audited financial statements, cash flows and proformas to assist school leadership in implementing sustainable financial models using multi-year planning strategies.
Recommend and present financing proposals to appropriate audiences for review and approval of local school debt financing.
Participate in school audit processes of the Archdiocese of Boston.
Initiate school visits to engage pastors, heads of school, boards of trustee, advisory boards and school finance/business managers in addressing fiscal challenges, key metrics, cash flow and development of a multi-year planning approach by leveraging existing Archdiocesan technologies and resources.
Support the Superintendent in the stewardship of philanthropic restricted and unrestricted resources to strategically strengthen Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Boston.
Support succession planning by identifying and preparing high- potential leaders for future roles.
Stay current on national trends and research in Catholic and independent school operational vitality. Internal Operations- Catholic Schools Office
Collaborate with CSO directors to ensure leadership development supports cross-functional school success.
Supervises the CSO Operations and Engagement Coordinator to ensure efficient operations of the office and adherence to Archdiocesan policies and procedures.
Supervises the CSO Director of Data Administration & Reporting.
Manages departmental revenue and expenses in accordance with the CSO budget and is a strategic partner to the Superintendent for funding for initiatives.
Internal Partnerships- Pastoral Center Departments
Serves as the primary liaison between the Catholic Schools Office and RCAB Pastoral Center Offices such as but not limited to Boston Catholic Development Services, Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, Parish Services & Property Management.
Leverage existing Archdiocesan technologies and resources in support of school financial and operational planning. External Partnerships- Schools, Vendors & Catholic Education Stakeholders
Serve as a resource to pastors, school boards, and principals regarding effective leadership practices.
Management of Vendor Relations.
Support the Superintendent and Archbishop to work closely with the groups that support Catholic education to leverage support and resources that will strengthen the impact of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Boston.
Engage pastors, heads of school, boards of trustee, advisory boards and business managers in addressing fiscal challenges, key metrics, cash flow and multi-year planning.

Program Implementation & Evaluation
Support designing, implementing, and evaluating financial and operational best practices for Catholic Schools across the Archdiocese of Boston.
Build pathways for pastors, principals, business managers and advisory board to leverage existing resources and strategies for financial well-being, operational vitality and long-term sustainability.

Mission & Catholic Identity
Ensure all financial practices and operational initiatives are grounded in the mission of Catholic education and the values of the Catholic Church.

Other Duties
Represent the Catholic Schools Office at Archdiocesan events related to Catholic school leadership.
Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS
Practicing Catholic with a commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
Master's degree and/or CPA preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of financial and operational progressive leadership experience in Catholic schools, higher education, or nonprofit leadership development. Financial planning.
Strong analytical skills partnered with strategic thinking and relationship building with a focus on stakeholder service and engagement.
Strong knowledge of school governance, nonprofit organizations, strategic planning, finance, advancement, and operations preferred.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in order to identify pathways to address operational and financial instability.
Proven organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Ability to inspire, mentor, and coach leaders at different stages of their careers.
Familiarity with tools such as but not limited to Adaptive Budgeting, Intaact, FACTS, and other Microsoft and enterprise level software.

Salary range- $135K - $150K
