Upper Elementary Humanities Teacher (part-time)

Primary Role: Online Instructor

Secondary Role: Subs, Tutors, Grade Reporting, Placement Testers

Reports To: Department Chair

Location: Remote

Employment Status: Part-time

Position Summary

Kolbe Academy instructors provide high-quality online instruction in alignment with the school's Catholic mission and academic standards. Instructors are responsible for delivering engaging live classes, managing course content through the Schoology learning management system, assessing student learning, and maintaining effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Faculty members support student success through strong instructional practices, organization, and professionalism.

Teachers should plan for 2.5 hours of live time each day and 1-2 hours of planning and grading

Responsibilities for Teachers Grades PK-5

Conduct live classes as scheduled in Adobe Connect
Manage and maintain assigned courses in Schoology (our learning management system)
Create & post a weekly assignment schedule each Friday
Design and develop lessons, assignments, and assessments using the Kolbe curriculum
Communicate with parents and students through email and Schoology (M-F except on holidays)
Provide timely feedback and grading on all assignments and assessments
Hold office hours during exam weeks and by request of students
Complete annual initial and ongoing training as assigned
Attend all in-service, department, and grade level meetings as scheduled

Other PK-5 responsibilities include:

Check email and Schoology messages on a daily basis, Monday-Friday not including holidays or breaks
Return graded assignments within a reasonable time frame
Hold office hours/Student success meetings upon appointment
Complete training in all technology, Kolbe philosophy and policy, and online teaching pedagogy
Attend faculty in-service meetings as directed
Attend all department meetings as scheduled
Instruction and Classroom Leadership

Deliver engaging, well-structured live online instruction aligned with the approved curriculum

Use varied instructional strategies to support student understanding and participation

Integrate Catholic teaching appropriately when applicable

Maintain an orderly, respectful online classroom environment

Encourage student engagement and participation

Course and LMS Management

Organize and maintain course materials, assignments, and recordings in Schoology

Post assignments, materials, and class recordings in a timely manner

Maintain consistent course structure, schedules, and due dates

Ensure course accessibility for students with approved accommodations

Assignment and Assessment

Design assignments and assessments aligned with course objectives and instructional guidelines

Provide clear instructions and expectations for student work

Maintain appropriate rigor and workload

Implement required accommodations

Grading and Feedback

Grade student work accurately and in a timely manner

Provide meaningful feedback to support student improvement

Maintain accurate gradebook records

Communicate concerns about student progress to parents and appropriate staff

Apply school policies with fairness and professional judgment

Student Support and Engagement

Foster a positive learning environment that supports all students

Monitor student understanding and adjust instruction as needed

Address behavioral concerns appropriately

Support students with diverse learning needs

Professional Responsibilities

Demonstrate professionalism consistent with Kolbe Academy's mission

Communicate promptly and professionally with students, parents, and staff

Collaborate with colleagues and participate in meetings and professional development

Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct

Update course materials as needed

Evaluation and Accountability

Instructor performance is evaluated regularly through a comprehensive process that may include review of live and recorded classes, evaluation of course organization and materials, assessment of instructional practices and student engagement, review of assignments and grading practices, parent and student surveys, observations by Department Chairs and school leadership (including unannounced visits), and annual conferences with self-evaluation. Performance is assessed using a four-level rubric: Distinguished, Proficient, Basic, or Unsatisfactory.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's degree in subject area (Master's preferred)

Teaching experience (online teaching experience preferred)

Strong organizational, communication, and technology skills

Ability to work effectively in a remote environment

Commitment to the mission of Catholic education

Preferred:

Experience with Schoology or similar learning management systems

Experience supporting students with accommodations or diverse learning needs

Work Environment

Fully remote, technology-based instruction

Combination of live teaching and asynchronous course management

Regular interaction with students, parents, faculty, and administration

Qualifications
Ideal Candidate:

Experience teaching the specific subject in the classroom and/or online

Required Qualifications

Classroom teaching experience and/or tutoring homeschool students.
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
Master's degree in field or teacher certification (any state). Preferred
Previous experience teaching in an online environment. Preferred
Job Requirements
Complete Kolbe Academy teacher training course.
Dedicated work space appropriate for conducting live online classes in a professional manner.
