Position Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Department: Physical Plant Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with a half-hour lunch break. Occasional overtime is required.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Locksmith / General Maintenance Technician will repair, troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance and installation work related to commercial and residential buildings, including manual/battery operated locksets, panic bars, closers, electrical lighting, mechanical, and hardware.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Repair, adjustment, preventive maintenance, installation and replacement of all door hardware. This includes but is not limited to hinges, closers, stays, pivots, panic hardware, powered latches/locksets, stops, weather seals, removable mullions and kickplates.
2. Provide services to customers such as key requests, core changes, lock picking, and numerous other customer convenience items as authorized.
3. Maintain accurate records of keys, perform key audits, and maintain core/key inventory.

REQUIREMENTS
Must understand, support, and embrace the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville and possess the following:
Technical Skills
• Troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability relevant to use both power and hand tools for finding the cause of equipment/hardware failures and performing repairs.
Capable of learning multiple aspects of wireless door hardware.
• Accomplish a wide variety of tasks related to institutional construction and remodeling work including but not limited to doors and hardware, keying floor layouts, and other projects.
• Read prints, sketches, etc. to compile a material list.
• Ability to be on call as needed.
Non-Technical Skills & Competencies
• Self-motivated. Does not wait to be asked or told to do something that needs to be done. Acts with minimal supervision. Capable of acting without getting bogged down with analysis and explanation.

Education & Experience
• Minimum of high school education or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing with customers and staff.
• A two-year training program is preferred in Best locks and systems. The program may have consisted of a vocational school, technical college, a company certified training program or an on-the-job training program.
• Minimum of three years' experience and general working knowledge of all aspects of the locksmith trade.
• A level of skill, working knowledge, and ability relevant to independently and efficiently perform work assignments with a minimum amount of direct supervision and utilizing a variety of hand and power tools.
• Capable of driving University vehicles and maintaining a valid driver's license and insurability with the University's auto insurance policy. Be physically capable of driving a vehicle.
Environmental/Workplace Factors
• Strength and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of this job. Be in good physical condition so as to be able to perform heavy lifting, transport equipment and labor materials to various sites. Be able to routinely lift a 50-pound object from the ground to shoulder height without assistance.
• Occasionally work in confined spaces and those that will require bending, stooping, and kneeling.
• Must be able to walk, climb ladders and scaffold, work from heights, and walk roofs.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Overtime may be required, including staggered shifts and/or weekends.
