Job Summary

St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, a Christ-centered community of faith in Yorktown, VA, is seeking an experienced full-time (30 hours per week) organist and choir director.

We require a musician for one Saturday evening and two Sunday morning Masses, major Catholic holy days (i.e., Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday), and for other special liturgies.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Lead music program to support liturgy with consideration of liturgical seasons, pastoral messages and congregational participation.
• Ability to select/recommend appropriate music reflecting the appropriate tones and moods of seasonal worship (e.g., Lent, Easter, Advent and Christmas).
• Perform special preludes and postludes to enhance spiritual environment.
• Ability to plan and coordinate.
• Lead/rehearse choir (Adult and Youth Choirs).
• Partner with pastor and Liturgy Committee to support the needs of our liturgical celebrations.
• Able to obtain and incorporate additional orchestra instruments for specific high Holy Masses.
• Provide musical support for weddings, funerals, and other special liturgies.
• Prepare worship aids.

Qualifications and Skills

• Demonstrated ability to inspire/perform/lead parish music programs of varied genres (i.e., classical, traditional, contemporary).
• Strong organizational skills; leadership competencies; congenial personality.
• Ability to collaboratively work as a member of a unified spiritual team.
• Undergraduate Music Degree preferred, not required in lieu of experience.
