Job Description
The Director of Hospitality works in close cooperation with the St. John staff, Campus Minister, and Student Leadership Council in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of events, activities, and services across all aspects of SJCSC to ensure high quality hospitality and service that support the mission of St. John. The Director of Hospitality contributes to developing and implementing initiatives at St. John to create a culture of encounter with Jesus Christ and His Gospel. The Director of Hospitality works with the Director of Operations as the liaison between SJCSC and individuals and groups who desire to utilize any part of the facility, including the church, for events and activities and external vendors supplying related services. They establish and enforce policies and procedures, fee structures, controls, and operational guidelines for all events and activities at SJCSC. The Director of Hospitality manages and provides oversight and controls for the financial aspects of events, food and supply inventories, training in food safety and sanitation, and ensures compliance with applicable state and local regulations and licensing requirements.QUALIFICATIONS
- Serve as a minister of the Catholic faith who preaches the Gospel in both word and deed and in both their private and public lives in accordance with the teachings of Catechism of the Catholic Church ("CCC"), the Sacred Deposit of the Catholic faith, and the local ordinary, the Bishop of the Diocese.
- Must be a strong witness of the Catholic faith, committed to discipleship in their own life, and living out one's vocation to the best of their ability.
- Affinity with, and passion for, the overall mission of the organization which is to "Build Saints for the Kingdom of God!"
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- 2+ years hospitality / service management experience.
- Enthusiasm and excellent people skills are essential.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to lead and motivate others.
- Willingness to work outside of normal workday parameters as the need arises (home football tailgates, weekend galas, Sunday Student Suppers, etc.)
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Hospitality concentrates on:
- Leadership, guidance, and coordination of all events and activities SJCSC.
- Mentorship of SJCSC students and staff in the development of events and activities.
- Understanding the importance of the inclusion of food in activities for students and delivering high quality meals and services to small and large groups in a variety of settings.
- Ensuring fiscal responsibility; implementing and enforcing SJCSC policies and procedures.
- Compliance with all applicable state and local regulations and licensing.
- Serving as an ambassador to campus and the community to disseminate the mission and purpose of SJCSC.
- Organizing and implementing programs to welcome visitors to SJCSC.
- Effective communication and service as a resource to SJCSC staff and students.
- Working in a team to build a culture of "home" at SJCSC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Demonstrate passion for the mission of SJCSC to "Build Saints for the Kingdom of God!"
- Overall responsibility for hospitality and service-based activities at SJCSC.
- Develop menus in advance for regularly scheduled events and activities (ex. Sunday Suppers).
- Work closely with SJCSC constituents to develop menus for special events (ex. Coop meals).
- Actively participate in the production and service of food-based events (ex. Sunday dinners and Coop meals) and coordinate volunteers for these events as appropriate.
- Organize tailgating events in close cooperation with the SJCSC staff and students.
- Coordinate scheduling and use of the kitchen, Hoftorium, Coop, and other foodservice / hospitality spaces as appropriate.
- Purchase food, supplies, and alcohol for the kitchen, Coop, regular meals, events, and activities ensuring quality and cost effectiveness.
- Manage the inventory and security systems for food, supplies and alcohol.
- Ensure that all spaces in the facility used for events are set up and cleaned up in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Enforce policies and procedures, fee structures, controls, and operational guidelines for all events and activities at SJCSC.
- Conduct research on external vendors for food production / catering, AV, sound, etc. to ensure quality and create a preferred vendor list.
- Vet external vendors not on the preferred vendor list requested by individuals and/or groups desiring to rent SJCSC space.
- Ensure compliance with Oklahoma Department of Health regulations serving as a proactive liaison with the Payne County Health Department staff.
- Implement ongoing training in food safety and sanitation for SJCSC staff and volunteers, including SERVE SAFE certification where required.
- Ensure compliance with ABLE Commission regulations regarding the purchasing, storage and service of alcohol.
- Manage the event order systems in close cooperation with the Pastor, Campus Ministry office, and others as appropriate.
- Maintain an organized system for written and electronic records as required by federal, state, and Diocese regulations.
- Work in close cooperation with the Director of Finance to manage and provide oversight and controls for the financial aspects of events and activities at SJCSC including but not limited to cash handling, credit cards, inventories, budgeting, etc.
- Prepare and monitor/maintain budgets as assigned in close cooperation with the staff and students.
- Develop and implement a preventative maintenance schedule for all food production and storage equipment in close cooperation with the Facility Manager and Director of Operations.
- Keep up with annual "minister" training per Diocese guidelines.
- Coordinate with Pastor concerning wedding requests; ensure fulfilment of wedding contract payments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Pastor.
LEADERSHIP AND COORDINATION
- Work effectively in a team environment and contribute to staff unity and team development.
- Implement communication practices to keep all members of the St. John community informed.
- Be available as a resource for the SJCSC staff, students, and volunteers.
- Facilitate teamwork and a culture of community.
- Represent SJCSC to campus and the community.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Serve as a member of the SJCSC staff and work in close cooperation with team members.
- Respond promptly to inquiries.
- Participate in and lead meetings as assigned.
- Provide supervision for assigned student employees.
