Job Description

The CEO/Executive Director for Calvary Cemetery provides leadership for and directs the overall operations of the cemetery with an emphasis on long-term goals, growth, profit and the propagation of faith through the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy and is responsible for performing duties as the highest-ranking executive to guide Calvary's practices and procedures. Duties include overseeing cemetery operations, communicating with board members and making decisions that impact the cemetery's brand identity and financial health to assure that the cemetery is operated efficiently and effectively in accordance with Church guidelines and applicable industry standards. This full-time, ministerial position reports to the Chairman of the Board of the Catholic Cemetery Association of Tulsa.

KEY TASKS:

- Articulate Catholic teaching with a commitment to its application in the job function.
- Lead, develop and implement long-term and short-term plans to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of cemetery operations.
- Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
- Prepare and present the annual budget to the Board of Trustees.
- Participate in the Board of Trustees meetings and advise the board and its committees on all aspects of the organization, engaging appropriate staff when necessary. Keeping the board fully informed on significant events and trends.
- Assure the successful execution of the cemetery's operating programs, directly or through staff.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the staff, assuring they are made an effective part of the team, and keeping them fully informed of decisions and problems within their sphere of interest.
- Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
- Sponsor and encourage formation of various collaborative relationships with pastors, parishes, funeral directors, palliative care organizations, and other targeted demographics groups.
- Establish and enforce operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety.
- Conduct frequent inspection tours of cemetery to examine the condition of graves, markers, and general appearance and correct issues proactively before the public makes a formal complaint.
- Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
- Work with Office Manager to assure documentation of maps and procedures.
- Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
- Plan and execute cemetery events that create awareness of the cemetery and its mission.
- Review performance of staff.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while demonstrating the ability to work harmoniously with other employees, stakeholders, and guests.
- Follow cemetery personnel and safety procedures.
- Review and adhere to the Calvary Cemetery Personnel Handbook and all other Catholic Cemetery Association of Tulsa policies.
- Must pass a background check.
- Execute all other duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees.

KEY SKILLS

- Bachelor's Degree plus significant work experience in a senior leadership role preferably in cemeteries.
- A valid Oklahoma driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

This requirement includes any public speech, demonstration or writing, including the use of social media or other digital technologies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee should be able to meet the physical and mental demands of all the aforesaid key tasks, skills, and attributes. Such requirements include, but are not limited to, the lifting or moving of up to twenty-five (25) pounds; frequent sitting and the occasional demands of driving long distances.
