Job Description

Position: Assistant to the Chancellor
Reports to: The Vicar General
Classification: Non-Exempt; Part Time

Position Description:

Working directly with the Chancellor and alongside those in service to the Eparchy, and under the general direction of the Vicar General, the Assistant to the Chancellor coordinates the daily operations of the Office of the Chancellor of the Eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists the Chancellor with Marriage cases including dispensations and delegations, freedom to marry, and defect of form, by receiving requests, forwarding requests to the Chancellor for direction, drafting letters to Dioceses and parishes as necessary, generating paperwork for the Chancellor's signature, and sending executed documentation to those requesting.

2. Assists Chancellor with Bi-Ritual Faculty cases, including, to receive requests from clergy, forward requests to the Chancellor, draft requests for faculties, send requests to the Dicastery for Eastern Churches in Rome, and to send Bi-ritual forms to grantees.

3. Coordinates the annual update of the Official Catholic Directory (OCD), including requesting updates from parishes and affiliated ministries, updating annual submissions, and sending submission to the OCD.

4. Coordinates the annual update of the Annuario Pontificio by submitting OCD totals and other relevant information to the Holy See for inclusion.

5. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor Degree preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Excellent verbal communications
• Attention to detail
• Organizational skills and ability to maintain professional database and file system
• Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, familiarity with Desktop Publishing, and Design a plus.
• Must be results-driven and motivated with a willingness to learn while working as part of a team
• Familiarity with the Sacraments and Teachings of the Catholic Church
• Experience with the structure and works of the Catholic Church
• Willingness to work for a Catholic institution
