JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Coordinator of Youth Ministry
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Mission
Date: January 2026
Supervisory Role: N/A

The Coordinator of Youth Ministry works collaboratively with and under the direction of the Pastor and the Director of Mission to lead young people, grades 6-12, in becoming active and intentional disciples of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.

The coordinator will work with parents to support their duty to train their children in the practice of the faith and to bring them up to keep God's commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor (from The Rite of Baptism).

The coordinator will exercise judgment within the scope of the position, while keeping in collaboration with the Pastor, Director of Mission, Youth Advisory Council, Core Teams, members of the parish staff and volunteers.

The coordinator will develop and implement a process of evangelization and discipleship and will recruit, form, and shepherd adult leaders and parents to accompany the youth in their faith.

Duties
1. Develops programs for middle school and high school students in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church in the areas of evangelization, catechesis, doctrine, moral life, liturgy and sacraments, Catholic leadership development, and prayer that are commensurate with parish and archdiocesan guidelines.
2. Leads others to Christ by example rooted in the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church.
3. Receives specific catechetical formation and certification through approved diocesan process.
4. Provides sound resource materials for spiritual enrichment to youth and parents.
5. Networks with other youth ministry leaders both on archdiocesan and national levels.
6. Plans, develops, and implements catechetical programs and social opportunities for th youth of the parish to help them develop their Catholic identity and establish peer relationships within the parish community.
7. Plans, develops, and implements a schedule of service activities grounded in Catholic Social Teaching to foster awareness of the needs of others.
8. Promotes the youth ministry within the parish.
9. Creates and manages all social media accounts associated with youth ministry. Develop ways to evangelize using technology.
10. Oversees and supervises all youth ministry volunteers.
11. Invites, forms, motivates, evaluate, and promotes formation of adult and youth leaders.
12. Obtains parental support and consent for activities.
13. Provides supervisor with program activity reports and evaluations.
14. Manages annual budget.
15. Serves as member of the parish and participates in staff meetings, team meetings, prayer and educational days.
16. Maintains current certifications and engages in on-going formation
17. Establishes a collaborative relationship with parents and families in the parish, school and faith formation programs, developing the youth ministry program as one that recognizes, supports, and equips parents as primary formators of the faith

Qualities
1. Spirit-filled and practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church.
2. Intentional disciple who has been made new through an encounter with the Lord; and practices the four disciplines of Scripture, sacraments, community, and prayer.
3. Organizational skills, including ability to communicate well both orally and written; time management, delegation, planning, and budgeting.
4. Ability to work with youth and adults.
5. Successful completion of Safe and Sacred.
6. Bachelor's degree; degree in theology, religious education, or related field preferred.
7. Knowledge of adolescent and pre-teen spiritual and personal development.
8. Good proficiency in Microsoft Office Software.
9. Knowledge of Renewing the Vision, National Directory for Catechesis.
10. Public speaking experience.
11. Ability to change and be flexible in high-paced environments

Working Conditions
1. Flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight stays.
2. Frequent walking, standing, sitting.
3. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
