Title: Guidance Counselor
Department: Guidance
Reports to: Assistant Principal for Guidance

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
The Guidance Counselor will work in conjunction with the Assistant Principal for Guidance and the members of the department to evaluate trends in the following areas: attendance, grades, and social-emotional concerns.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position provides an exciting opportunity to build our already outstanding Guidance Department programs by actively engaging with students who are struggling academically to provide support and direction. Additionally, there will be an emphasis on the strong correlation between attendance and academic performance.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
In conjunction with the Assistant Principal for Guidance, the Guidance Counselor is responsible for expanding the scope of the interventions afforded to our students, including, but not limited to:

-Identifying students with chronic attendance issues
-Overseeing the implementation of peer tutoring services and actively following up to ensure that all parties are accountable for their respective responsibilities
-Using data from the grade reports to actively intercede with students who are in academic jeopardy
-Identify and implement appropriate interventions for students in academic jeopardy
-Work collaboratively with the school Social Worker on behalf of students in crisis
-Oversee all homebound tutoring services
-Oversee all students who are under a concussion protocol
-Work with students who are transitioning back to school following an extended absence
-Collaborate with Level Coordinators to facilitate communication

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills. He or she will be able to work independently as well as collaboratively to support the mission of Kellenberg Memorial. Proficiency with various software programs, including Excel, is a must.
