Job Description

The Chesterton Academy of Notre Dame is seeking a versatile Humanities teacher with a passion for Catholic liberal arts (classical) education. The ideal candidate will match their passion for the humanities with a love for teaching and forming high school students in the Catholic faith. A strong preference will be given to candidates with the ability to teach the Great Books of literature (possible texts a teacher might be called upon to teach include Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur, Dante's Divine Comedy, Dostoevsky's Brothers Karamazov, and others). Candidates are expected to demonstrate competency with Socratic Seminar style teaching by engaging students with questions that will develop their critical thinking. In addition, candidates must not only be able to hold a high classroom standard but be able to meet students where they are and help them grow. This is an open position that may be full or part time, depending on the needs of the school and the competency and availability of the candidate.

To be considered, candidates must be practicing Catholics and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium. Faculty members are required to attend daily Mass with the entire student body and participate in spiritual retreats and support other school activities. In addition, faculty participate as mentors in the Houses System (the House system is designed to promote character and virtue and to help students grow in holiness), plus other duties as assigned.

While the ideal candidate will have previous teaching experience, all candidates must be capable of managing a high school classroom, have excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, and hold at least a bachelor's degree in Literature, History, or a related Humanities field by the time of employment. Educational credits/licensure are ideal but not required, though candidates may need to work toward educational credits upon employment. Position begins August 24, 2026.

Compensation and Summary of Benefits
Salary $42000-$50000 for full-time, part time employees will receive this at a pro-rated rate depending on hours. Offered salary is based on internal equity, market data, applicant's skills and relevant experience, degrees and certifications. Benefits-eligible positions receive a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, 401(k), state-paid medical and family leave and generous sick leave, vacation and holidays.

Interested parties: Please forward the following to Mr. Shane O'Doherty (office@canotredame.org): Cover letter, resume, references, and transcripts (unofficial) from undergraduate and, if applicable, graduate programs. All files must be PDFs.
