Job Description
General Summary:The Family Formation Coordinator is a ministerial position that:
-assists parents in the spiritual formation of their families, encouraging and equipping them to become the spiritual leaders of their homes, thus building up the Kingdom of God through the domestic church
-develops and implements family catechesis preparatory to reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist
-directly oversees the parish's summer catechetical offerings to families and their children
-collaborates with parish formation team and faculty of All Saints Catholic School to ensure integrity and continuity in parish's efforts to evangelize and form
Jesus Christ is the exemplary and primary teacher of the Catholic faith and the Catholic Church was instituted by Christ for the articulation of His Gospel of salvation; the Family Formation Coordinator is a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and of His Church. He/she is required to convey the Church's message and to assist in carrying out the Church's mission, which is always and everywhere the salvation of souls. He/ she is required to uphold the standards of the Catholic Church in his/her day-to- day work and personal life. All parish personnel are expected to be persons of integrity and must conduct themselves in an honest and open way, free from deception or corruption and in a manner consistent with the discipline and teachings of the Catholic Church. Parish personnel are expected to follow rules of conduct that will protect the interests and safety of all, including the standards set forth in Diocesan and Parish Policies and Guidelines.
Key Responsibility Areas
Supporting Families
The Family Formation Coordinator - under the guidance of the Pastor and Director of Formation and Education and formed by Bishop Konderla's pastoral letters God Builds a House and Jesus Is Lord - develops an annual plan to host gatherings throughout the year that challenge and strengthen the domestic church, primarily through Family Formation initiatives.
• Research and plan Family Formation resources and curriculum
• Recruit and manage a Family Formation volunteer base
• Plan and execute one Parent Formation Gathering each month
• Plan and execute one Family Gathering each month
• Plan and execute outreach/service project with families
• Support Youth Formation Coordinator and participate in parish's youth group activities
• Support Communio Coordinator and participate in parish's ministry to singles, engaged couples, spouses and widow(er)s
• Connect with families new to parish and parish life
• Provide support to parents and families in every stage of life
• Available to support pastor in counseling/references
• Connect parents and families with appropriate ministries/services, advocating for them when necessary
• Initiate, develop and maintain a personal relationship with families through a variety of activities
• Assess effectiveness of Family Formation programs and provide feedback to the Pastor and Director of Formation and Education
• Serve as spokesman and enthusiastically promote Family Formation ministries to the broader parish community
• Coordinate and attend annual events to foster and build whole-parish fellowship and outreach
Sacramental Catechesis
The Family Formation Coordinator, under the guidance of the Pastor and Director of Formation and Education, develops and delivers family catechesis to candidates for Reconciliation, Confirmation and the Eucharist and their parents as part of the parish's Family Formation initiatives.
• Tailor formation materials both for on-age candidates for the First Sacraments (eg, 2nd and 3rd graders) and those students who have not received the Sacraments at the typical time
• Coordinate formation meetings/workshops in anticipation of these Sacraments' reception
• Collaborate with Pastor and Associate Pastor to organize and schedule candidate interviews in anticipation of First Reconciliation and Confirmation/First Communion
• Coordinate the service at which First Reconciliation will be received and the liturgies at which Confirmation and First Communion will be received
• Cooperate with All Saints Catholic School 2nd and 3rd grade teachers to develop and maintain expectations about and language used when communicating with parents
• Collect and collate baptismal records for each candidate
Summer Programming
The Family Formation Coordinator, under the guidance of the Pastor and Director of Formation and Education, oversees and implements the parish's summer outreach through Vacation Bible School and Totus Tuus.
• Develop Vacation Bible School curriculum and daily schedule
• Obtain materials necessary for the daily implementation of the Vacation Bible School program
• Lead volunteer training sessions preparatory to each summer program
• Oversee and lead each day of summer programs
• Recruit classroom volunteers to present Vacation Bible School lessons
• Recruit host families to house Totus Tuus missionaries
• Assign Totus Tuus missionaries for whichever classroom/level each is most suited
• Recruit other volunteers to assist during Vacation Bible School and Totus Tuus
• Facilitate all minutiae associated with the summer programs (ie t-shirt ordering, meal coordination, etc)
Qualifications
• Two to three years leadership and ministry experience
• Familiarity and willingness to help lead a parish ministry that makes disciples
• Enthusiasm for being a member of a dynamic team of formators
• Servant's heart with spiritual maturity and sensitivity
• Passion and aptitude for family ministry
• Passion for connecting church and home
• Experience in leading others to discipleship
• Experience leading small groups
• Ability to recruit, train, and oversee volunteers
• Ability to develop and implement strategic processes
• Knowledge of and ability to articulate the Church's sacramental, ecclesial, moral, and spiritual theology and how they apply to the faithful
• Active and deep faith with full participation in the communal worship and life of the Church
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently with great organizational and time management skills
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Excellent computer skills-knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office and Google Suite
• Exceptional organizational and administrative skills
• Enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
• Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, volunteers, parish families, and other supporters maintaining positive relationships on all levels
• Exercises considerable independence and judgment

• If not already certified, VIRTUS certification to be completed within 7 days of employment, and before interaction with children or vulnerable adults
• Successfully pass the required BCI/FBI background check prior to employment and every five years
• Maintain a valid driver's license
• Preferred: fluency in Spanish
