The Catholic school principal serves not only as the educational leader but also as the spiritual exemplar of the school. Emphasizing qualities of excellence, commitment, creativity, and innovation in all school endeavors, the principal guides a community committed to the development of the whole child. The principal works collaboratively with the pastor, who is the ex officio chief administrative officer of a parish school. Under the direction of and in close cooperation with the pastor, the elementary school principal has three basic roles: religious leader, educational leader, and manager. The principal is responsible for establishing, demonstrating, and promoting the highest standards and expectations for academic performance, behavior, and spiritual growth of all students, as well as directing and nurturing all members of the school staff and the school parents, who are recognized as the primary educators of their own children.

Essential Functions:
• Supervise and coordinate compliance with all school matters per State of Indiana and Catholic Schools Office, and all diocesan policies
• Implement and coordinate School Strategic Plan
• Comply and implement the Accreditation Process.
• Review, update, and distribute rules, conduct, and discipline policies, i.e., School Handbook, Athletic Handbook, Parent Handbook, etc.
• Facilitate parish/school relationship, including but not limited to Catholic Schools Week
• Conduct "Back to School Night" (1)
• Conduct Kindergarten and Pre-School Roundups (1 each)
• Conduct parent meetings, as needed
• Conduct teacher evaluations/observations
• Organize all necessary teacher and staff contracts
• Conduct interviews and hiring for new staff, as needed
• Organize and secure funding for professional development
• Coordinate "Safe Environment" program for all employees and volunteers
• Keep accurate custodial/guardian records for all students' records
• Create and maintain school calendar with essential updates made timely not last minute
• Schedule daily class and teacher schedules
• Schedule and coordinate liturgy times and planning for Masses, Confessions, etc. via
Liturgical Committee with name of primary contact to pastor
• Schedule and coordinate "shared" personnel like teachers, technology, etc.
• Schedule all drills in compliance with the diocesan school safety guidelines
• Create schedule well in advance of summer, winter, and spring break so custodians may complete necessary maintenance tasks
• Review FACTS data with pastor to coordinate tuition assistance
• Coordinate with other parishes for collection of subsidy payments
• Attend professional meetings/conferences (diocesan and local)
• Oversee the admittance/enrollment of new students
• Annually update the school improvement plan (SIP)
• Coordinate standardized testing and follow all requirements (ISTEP, IREAD, NWEA, etc.)
• Plan school budget / (3) quotes needed for all major purchases and forecasting of projected student enrollment
• Attend all Catholic School Meetings
Daily Duties:
• Perform daily prayers and announcements
• Establish and maintain rules and procedures for staff and students
• Supervise teachers and communicate via e-mail and personally
• Supervise teacher, playground, lunchroom aides
• Conduct and coordinate parking lot drop-off and pick-up
• Conduct student discipline per appropriate procedures and guidelines
• Respond to parent concerns via meetings, phone, or email within 2 working days • Other duties as necessary or requested
Weekly Duties:
• Participate in creation and conduct reviews of school newsletter before sending home
• Conduct communication to parish via bulletin (articles, pictures, etc.)
• Report to pastor of any principal absence if more than two hours during a day and teacher absences, if unplanned for more than two days
• Report to pastor any key student/parent/teacher/staff issues, (i.e., discipline, grades, tuition, etc.)
• Respond to pastor meetings, phone calls, and email within 3 working days
• Conduct review of student extracurricular eligibility
• Maintain verifiable records for teacher and staff reporting sheets
• Maintain verifiable records for teacher and staff vacation, sick and banking days
• Other duties as assigned, necessary or requested
Monthly Duties:
• Schedule parking lot, playground, detention, and prayer duties with teachers
• Schedule and coordinate facilities use including gym, church meeting room & Mohr Hall (CMR-MH), while in use by the school
• Conduct teacher and staff meetings
• Evaluate teachers by regular walk-throughs and RISE evaluations (Modified Rise Rubric - Evaluation and Development System Tool)
• Spot check teacher lesson plans
• Establish instructional programs as needed
• Supervise and maintain Title programs in general (i.e., plan, budget, and claims)
• Conduct teacher performance and professional development as needed
• Supervise and maintain Title II and III plan, budget and claims
• Conduct fiscal operations of the school with assistance of Business Manager
• Submit purchase orders for all non-budgeted items over $300 to Business Administrator/Manager and for all non-budgeted items over $500 to pastor prior to purchases
• Coordinate orders and deliveries of all necessary items, i.e., textbooks and supplies
• Coordinate and negotiate tuition payments with families
• Report to pastor/Finance Council about tuition and other revenue/expense issues
• Coordinate fundraising
• Coordinate communication, marketing, and development within the parish with pastor through bulletins, activities like Catholic Schools Week, etc.
• Assure that the school website is current and updated regularly
• Coordinate communication, marketing, development, and grant writing within the community with committee(s) including but not limited to HASA and School Board through brochures, folders, advertising, activities like Catholic Schools Week, etc.
• Maintain professional relationships with other principals and schools
• Respond to Diocesan requests
• Review and conduct action for attendance and grade issues
• Attend School Board meetings
• Coordinate with executive council of School Board
• Review School Board initiatives and activities
• Attend and report to Parish Pastoral Council
• Other duties as necessary or requested
Summer Responsibility:
• Perform, review, and submit state reports including but not limited to School
Improvement Plan, Reading Plan, Technology Plan, Safety Plan
• Perform regular e-mail/telephone communication during summer months
• Conduct review of extracurricular policy in coordination with Athletic Director
• Conduct and coordinate tours and follow ups with prospective families
• Coordinate summer hours for email and phone messages
• Coordinate information packets
• Facilitate family ambassadors for new families
• Schedule and supervise fundraising review meeting with all involved parties
Qualifications:
• The elementary school principal shall hold (or be eligible for) an Indiana elementary supervision and administration license
• Knowledge of the Catholic Faith and be a practicing/participating Catholic in good standing with the Church
• Responsibility for continued personal, spiritual, and professional growth
• Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively in a diverse community environment, including the pastor, including taking direction when provided
• Excellent written and oral skills
• Ability to work independently to organize and arrange priorities
