Job Description
Position Summary:In accordance with the standards of House of Mercy and in union with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church practices and policies, the Food Pantry Manager plays an important role at House of Mercy. The Food Pantry Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the food pantry warehouse, which includes managing and training volunteers, overseeing daily warehouse and inventory operations, facilitating community partnerships, ensuring timely client service, and working with the Director of Programs to develop long-term operational goals.
The Food Pantry Manager will communicate openly, solve problems proactively, offer creative ideas and work as a positive, engaged team member. Flexibility and a cooperative spirit are crucial characteristics of the individual who holds this position.
Key Responsibilities:
The Programs Manager is responsible for the operational management of client services and related functions.
Food Pantry & Client Services Management
• Manage, train, and oversee food pantry volunteers, including scheduling others to cover the food pantry when needed.
• Properly manage, record, and inventory outgoing client assistance.
• Learn the ins and outs of the food pantry and client services.
• Ensure that the food pantry is open on time and secure at the end of each day.
• Maintain a list of urgent needs and an Amazon wish list for donors.
• Welcome, instruct, and oversee service groups.
• Assist with coordination of Mobile Pantry
Warehouse & Inventory Operations
• Manage warehouse operations to ensure effective receipt, documentation, and routing of incoming donations.
• Manage inventory, quality control, and storage.
• Safeguard operations with appropriate safety and security protocols, and keep the warehouse clean and organized.
• Manage inventory and place orders when necessary.
Community & Partner Engagement
• Reach out to the community to create and increase partnerships for food pantry operations.
• Facilitate communication with other food pantries.
• Be available to visit and conduct meetings with partners.
• Maintain current and newly created partnerships.
Planning & Organizational Support
• Work with the Director of Programs to develop long-term operational goals and direction for warehouse operations.
• Assist in planning and organizing certain House of Mercy events throughout the year.
• Participate in staff meetings as required.
• Maintain regular communication with the Director of Programs and fellow coordinators.
• Comply with the established standards, policies, and rules of conduct for all employees and volunteers.
• Cover for other coordinators when necessary and other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For:
A college degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
Warehouse experience is required.
Leadership experience is a must, especially in managing staff and/or volunteers.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required to manage schedules, budgets, and deadlines.
Ability to solve problems with good judgment and handle occasional conflict resolution.
Ability to sustain physical activity across the workday, including the repeated handling of items weighing up to 50 lbs. and prolonged standing and walking on the warehouse floor.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Comfort with public speaking and email correspondence.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
