Campus Minister and Service & Justice Coordinator

Overview: The Newman Catholic Community is a vibrant campus ministry/parish serving the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As the Campus Minister and Service & Justice Coordinator, you join a staff excited about inviting people to encounter Jesus Christ and carry Jesus' mission into the UNC community and the world.

Job Summary:
You work with the Associate Director of Campus Ministry to supervise, disciple, and accompany a large team of volunteer student leaders who run our campus ministry program; you work with the Pastor to promote, organize, and execute service and justice initiatives for both students and parishioners.

Responsibilities:
• Support and assist student leaders in execution of "Carolina Catholic Night," Newman's mid-week large-group event, which draws 80-120 students for a student speaker, activity, praise and worship with Newman's student band, and a student-cooked meal.
• Collaborate with Associate Director and student leaders on campus ministry offerings such as retreats, outreach, and social events.
• Assist in the promotion of campus ministry and service & justice events on social media.
• Supervise the student Service & Justice team, to promote, organize, and execute Fall and Spring service days.
• Serve as the liaison with Newman's community partners (Durham Community Food Pantry, Orange County Justice United, and Habitat for Humanity) to organize, promote and execute service and justice initiatives.
• Serve as liaison with Newman's sister parish, St. Julia Parish in Siler City, to promote, organize, and execute the Advent/Christmas gift card collection and the ministry of the Mobile Dental Clinic.
• Serve as liaison with the Office of Human Life and Dignity of the Diocese of Raleigh, as feasible.
• Other tasks and initiatives, as feasible, decided in conjunction with the Associate Director of Campus Ministry and assigned by the Pastor.

Other Expectations:
• Regular ministry of presence at the student Mass on Sundays and at the Activity Center during the week.
• Attendance at weekly staff meetings.
• Resource person for students' spiritual and leadership development.
• Particular outreach and care for new students.

Qualifications:
• Practicing Catholic in good standing.
• Undergraduate degree with at least two years of ministry, volunteer service, or professional experience.
• Team-oriented and collaborates well with students, parishioners, and staff.
• A "people person" - outgoing, friendly, self-confident, willing to initiate conversations.
• Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Current valid driver's license and personal transportation.
• Completion or willingness to complete required Safe Environment training and background check for the Diocese of Raleigh.
• You are energetic, organized, and have a good sense of humor.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
