Job Description
AT A GLANCE- $65k-$95k full-time salary
- 20 tutoring sessions per week (90 minutes each) + admin
- Private office, structured mentoring, and Catholic formation
- 1450+ SAT or 33+ ACT required
- Immediate start available - we currently have a waitlist of students ready to begin
POSITION OVERVIEW
Magnolia Prep is hiring one full-time SAT/ACT prep instructor to work at our Orlando office.
The position is primarily private tutoring, but could also include teaching SAT/ACT group classes, doing support work for the business (meeting with school counselors, speaking with potential clients by phone, etc.), meeting weekly with your supervisor, and attending our weekly all-company meeting.
START DATE: We are hiring for an immediate need. We currently have a waitlist.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
You'll carry a full caseload of private tutoring-typically 20 sessions per week, each 90 minutes long. Tutors are welcome to tutor more students and earn more if they prefer and are able to handle it, but averaging 20 sessions per week is what we aim for and expect.
Tutoring sessions are normally scheduled after school and on Saturdays. The office is closed on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.
We teach most of our students in-person at the office, but some tutoring is online.
You'll also serve as the main point of contact for your students and their families, and so would be responsible for returning calls, e-mails, and texts in a timely fashion (we aim to respond within 24-48 hours). This responsibility is typically light.
Because we are a small team, you should also expect to be assigned support work for the business such as meeting with counselors, following up with potential clients that have been referred to us, etc.
Support work is assigned based on your weekly tutoring load: when your schedule is full, non-tutoring tasks are minimal. In slower weeks, you'll be expected to fill open time with meaningful support work as assigned. We aim for a 40-hour workweek.
Lastly, you'll attend the weekly all-company meeting and your weekly 1-on-1 meeting with your manager (the owner of the company).
TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
You will be receiving rigorous training in the SAT itself and its material (math, grammar, vocabulary, etc.) so as to achieve mastery. You will also be trained in the SAT Math and Grammar AI software that we utilize as well as other SAT-specific tools and resources.
You'll receive one-on-one SAT tutoring pedagogy training from the company owner (a 15-year industry veteran with a 1590 SAT and Princeton degree), plus weekly mentoring and a structured professional reading program in teaching, leadership, and the Catholic faith.
As our company continues to expand, we anticipate future management opportunities for high performers.
You will be a member of the National Test Prep Association.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. 1450+ SAT score or 33+ ACT composite score.
2. Prior tutoring/teaching experience preferred but not required.
3. Be able to pass a background check.
4. Bachelor's degree.
5. Must either live in the Orlando area or be willing to relocate.
COMPENSATION
Salary: $65,000-$95,000 per year based on tutoring rate and student load. Most full-time team members reach the upper end of this range in their first year.
Benefits: 401(k) with company match + health insurance.
OTHER PERKS
1. Flexible schedule
2. Your own private office
3. Work with motivated, respectful students
4. A calm, orderly, mission-driven, and results-oriented work environment
5. Opportunities for long-term advancement and leadership
6. Rigorous training, weekly 1-on-1 mentoring with your direct manager (currently the company owner), and a structured professional reading program in teaching, leadership, and the Catholic faith
7. The chance to grow with a small but expanding company where your work has real influence
8. Award-winning reputation - we were voted Best Tutor in Orlando in 2023 & 2024, have 4.9 stars on Google, and are a member of the National Test Prep Association
9. Trusted by top schools - we partner with the Maclay School, Montverde Academy, and Forest Lake Academy
10. Work with smart, disciplined co-workers who enjoy their job and strive for excellence
