I. JOB SUMMARY

The Principal Accompanist serves as support to the Director of Sacred Music adhering to the Liturgical Guidelines of the Catholic Church, the Diocese of Columbus and of the Parish.
This position requires variable and flexible hours, primarily evenings and weekends. It will include working holidays.

II. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Music Ministry
1. Assists the Director of Sacred Music by providing organ accompaniment during weekend Masses (on average, three per weekend), holy days, and special Masses.
2. Serves as the principal organist for the Parish Choir. Accompanies weekly Parish Choir rehearsals (usually September-May) and choir Masses.
3. Accompany other rehearsals as needed.
4. Fills in for the Director of Sacred Music when the Director is absent.
5. Accompanies other music events such as Advent Lessons and Carols.
6. Assists in liturgy planning and consultation at the discretion of the Director.
7. This position works collaboratively with the Director of Sacred Music to implement a program of liturgical music in accord with Church doctrine on sacred music. Specifically, the music program will continue to be guided toward substantial choral and organ repertoire, various types of English chant and Gregorian chant, and hymnody.
III. OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Administers parish business operations in accordance with the parish and Catholic Church's mission.
1. Understands Catholic social teaching and applies it to parish policies and practices.
2. Ensures parish is compliant with federal, state, local and regulatory bodies.
3. Maintains a neat and safe work area.
4. Appropriate office attire is required.
5. Maintains all information as highly confidential.
6. Supportive of the Pastor's vision.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
8. The successful candidate will have to pass competencies for this position.

IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Required: Compliance with BCI&I background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children program.
Education: High School diploma is required. Knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Church and its mission is required.
Experience: Proficiency in organ and piano is required.
Job Related Skills: Knowledge of all Catholic liturgical music documents and Catholic liturgy is required. Familiarity of the Liturgical Guidelines of the Diocese of Columbus with principles and dimensions of the catholic faith formation.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills when dealing with co-workers, other parish or Diocesan employees, families and the general public; the ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work.
